Dofetilide/Tikosyn is now available through the T.I.P.S (Tikosyn in

Pharmacy System) program. For further information call 1-877-

Tikosyn (1-).

Pharmacist at Kerry Drugs (North Duke Crossing shopping center) said

he has filled Rx for tikosyn, but to give him a few days advanced

notice to be sure he has the medicine in stock as he has to order

directly from Pfizer instead of his distributor. A Mon order comes in

on Tues. A Thur order might not arrive until Mon. And, in the winter,

have to allot that weather could be a slowing down factor in getting

the medicine in stock.

Does this wider availability mean they are no longer requiring a

hospital stay to start it? Or just that any doc can prescribe it?

Good Morning Trudy:

I think its still necessary to have a hospital stay of 3 days to get

started on Dofetilide. It is also my understanding that it is only

available, not only through those physicians who have been trained

in its use, but also to those pharmacies *participating* in the TIPS

program.

But, I could be wrong -

My pharmacist said he had to study the Pfizer material and fill out

some paperwork indicating he was fully aware of the drug and its side

effects and prescribing info. That should have been Kerr Drugs

instead of Kerry (I must have had my mind on Merry as in Christmas!).
