Guest guest
The dessert at Outback is Chocolate Thunder and as far as I know it is gluten free. My husband and I usually split it because it is so large. Many of the employees are not to swift about gluten free. Check the Outback website for further info. Guest guest
They actually have two GF desserts. The "Thunder Down Under" - flourless brownie with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. And another one, I can't remember the name of it. It is vanilla Ice Cream rolled in toasted coconut and served with chocolate syrup . Not every restaurant serves everthing that is posted on the master menu on their website. Guest guest
We went there 'specifically' due to gf list and the dessert. No one had a clue about gf and they never heard of a gf menu. We had the waitress ask and she first came back and said, no it has gluten... when I looked shocked, amazed and disheartened, she went back and asked someone else... Then she came back and said, " I'm so sorry, you were right, the brownies are gf and flourless. " Needless to say, my kids didn't like it because of the nuts. http://www.outbacksteakhouse.com/ourmenu/index.asp Priscilla Graham " Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing. Guest guest
They should be able to show you their GF menu when you go into the restaurant. We were told ALL of the Outbacks are required to provide this to customers...sorry to say that maybe you just got a server who did not want to bother. I really dislike that when we go out to eat. I stress so much over it for my daughter and then to have people act like it is no big deal really burns me. Guest guest
The Outback Steakhouse Gluten-Free menu can be found at this link: http://www.outbacksteakhouse.com/ourmenu/pdf/glutenfree.pdf The two gluten-free desserts are Chocolate Thunder from Down Under, which is delicious, and Sydney's Sinful Sundae. I have never eaten the Sydney's one because I was so happy with the Chocolate Thunder one. I went to our nearest Outback Steakhouse in Greater Cincinnati, and the server was wonderful. I brought a copy of the gluten-free menu on the internet, but I forgot to tell him no croutons, and HE knew. Then we went to Los Angeles, we had no copy of the gluten-free menu, but they did, in color and laminated. They were also wonderful. Then we went back to our nearest Outback Steakhouse, didn't take the gluten-free menu because we didn't have to have one in California, and got a different server. She was working on a graduate degree and thought she knew all she needed to know. (We have graduate degrees and know that doesn't mean you know all you need to know.) Anyhow, when we asked her for the gluten-free menu, she told us we were supposed to bring our own. We told her that we didn't because the Los Angeles Outback had the menu in the restaurant. We went through this twice with her. Then she told us she had worked there a long time and knew what was gluten-free. We asked for the manager--the manager got us the gluten-free menu off the internet. Then when we went through the gluten-free menu, she told us something was "probably" gluten-free. I told her that "probably" doesn't do it. It has be either with or without gluten. Then we told her that Aussie Chips are not gluten-free, and she did not know that. Then she settled down and served us properly, and was very pleasant after that. So take the restaurant's gluten-free menu with you if you can. If you can't bring the gluten-free menu, and you know they have one, insist that they get it for you--off the internet if need be. Guest guest
JoAnn, That's a great suggestion. It can be beneficial if you do have a copy of the GF menu already when you arrive at the restaurant. Guest guest
My daughter is dairy free in addition to being gluten free. Do you know if Outback can accommodate her as well? It would be sooooo nice to go out to dinner once in a while! Thanks for any info,
