in Andy's book it says that a side effect of ALA is excess urination...I have

the page dog eared so here are some more

-LA casues more obsessive thinking patterns

-LA casuse more emotional volatility(however nothing like " sulfer foods "

cause in susceptible individuals)

-difficulaty relating to other people understanding their feelings and

intentions

-apathy and lack of motivation

mild photophobia

-LA is euphoria producing so all of this is somewhat pleasant, although

distracting

-LA gives the urine a very distinctive " sulfery " smell

I have see my son have some of these sysmptoms. Sometimes he is " paranoid "

afraid of people he knows. Definately has trouble understand others feelings

but then what autistic kid doesn't. But I think it's more on the ALA. ALL

of these symptoms were short lived-gone within the round or shortly after.

Hope this helps.

Holly

I don't know if it is expected but it happened to Jon. He lost some blatter

control too on cycles.

He would regain it after a few days off chelation. yep, stinky stools too

[ ] hyper and urinating frequently

this is my son's eigth cycle of chelation. This scycle we added

ala. I would like to know if excessive urination, foul bms and hyper

activity are to be expected on the cylce. All responses are

appreciated. I can not find these answers in the archives.

thanks so much for you answer. I have been wondering why my son was sooo

happy and giggly since Friday. I thought that may be it was a yeast

issue. But i am now thinking it was the ala. He had some paranoia as

well . Running and screaming for no apparent reason. If you do not

mind how is your son/daughter

doing on chelation?

Thank you for your response. I would really like to know how your son is

doing with chelation. If you would not mind , please let me know. I

have seen some great things with my son and I would like to know if the

ala will continue to bring better success. Thanks

My son Ben is doing great. We just completed round number 14. He is 4.3

years old. Last year at this time his ATEC score was 147 putting him in the

severe range of autism. His official diagnosis was PDD-NOS. He dropped to

the high 80's after 3 months of the GF/CF diet. Since it's been a year and

after 14 rounds of chelation, I just ran his ATEC and he is at 44. If only I

could get him potty trained, he could drop another 10 points. My goals for

him in 6 months of chelation were potty training and riding a tricycle. Well

he has horrible diaherria during chelation so I'm kind of happy he's still in

a diaper but YESTERDAY, he pedaled a tricycle. He couldn't steer AND pedal

but he was pedaling. I plan to put it on video tape.

Ben is 40# and he takes 7.5 mg DMPS and 16 mg ALA every 3 hours around the

clock. 3 days on and 4 days off. We started with DMSA only and after 8

rounds added the ALA. The last 4 rounds have been with the DMPS. We also

started 3 days on and 11 off for the first 2 months. We break up his

supplements, etc. and give them 4x/day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed we

can keep up the progress without gut bugs, etc.

Hope this helps,

Holly

Holly,

Not sure what method of potty training you are using. What finally worked for

us at about

5 yrs. (for poops...he was trained for peeps way back) was to have him sit on

the pot

about 15 mins. after lunch and dinner for upwards of 1/2 an hour.

We gave him books to looks at " read " . It worked. I can't remember how long it

took, a

couple of weeks or so, but his body began to " know " he was going to be sitting

there at

that time EVERY day and finally it coincided w/ having to go.

We learned this from another parent w/ a boy on the spectrum.

Best of luck,

Jill

This past weekend was my son's 1st round with ALA added and he

didn't have any signs of hyperactivity, in fact it was quite the

opposite. However, horrible smelling gas, bm's and a lot of

urination. I am giving him alot of fluids though with the DMSA/ALA,

so that could explain it. I was rather pleasantly surprised that he

did so well and no side effects noted. We are doing 25mg each every

3 hours for 3 1/2 days then off 3 1/2 days.
