Guest guest
Cheese and the crust. Not to mention any toppings like pepperoni or sausage etc. if you get a cheese pizza, which I am assuming you had with maybe some variation, the cheese is extremely high and rich in fat and causes delayed absorption of the carbs and, the crust. The crust is made with a decent amount of oil in it. They also oil the pan they cook it on. It sounds like the person that told you it was good for you is tremendously undereducated on diabetes management and needs to go for some continuing education on the matter. I say this tongue and cheek but... tell ya what, do a test. eat 2 pieces of cheese pizza from any favorite pizza joint around your area. each piece is about 28 to 30 grams of carbs. dose enough novalog to cover 60 grams of carbs, do a 1 hour post meal, 2 hour post meal, and if your still standing, eat glucose tablets so you don't pass out LOL. Next, in about 4 hours, do a sugar check, then a 5 hour post sugar check, and you'll start to see the carbs now begin to be digested and spike your sugar. I just can't believe someone would tell you, a diabetic, that pizza is good for you? *scratch head* Regards, pizza What is wrong with pizza, I had it on Monday night and my CDE thinks it is good for me. Where is the fat in it? There are certain " pizza effect " foods that you should never eat because of the seriousness of it: pizza, fried chicken, Chinese, and some others. Guest guest
well, that home made pizza sounds so good! and yes, is not high in fat! when can I come over for dinner? *grin* Regards, pizza I was told the crust of 2 slices (it is 4 ounces dough uncooked) I eat counts as the 2 of the 3 carbs I should have per meal. I top it with peppers, onions, spinach, mushrooms, sometimes broccoli and fresh tomatoes like now when the garden is in and those are the 1 1/2 cups of veggies I normally have for dinner.. I use a low fat mozzarella and add about 1-2 ounces per slice for my protein. The 14 " I make serves 4. Anyway, I take 4 units of Novolog for it and I am within normal limits. I like it better than pizza at a restaurant but have never really liked Italian food. Since I just can't get lunch down I can have 3 carbs for breakfast and 3 for dinner if I eat that much. Breakfast I often can, but for dinner I usually have a large salad and 1 1/2 cups veggies so the CDE says to try to eat a piece of fruit during the day...lol I am a slow eater and breakfast normally takes me 2-3 hrs or more to eat. I am better at dinner and can usually do it in a 1-2 hours. I am a big believer in appy's so I have a glass of tomato juice, raw veggies and dip, or a big salad an hour before I eat. Often I then have trouble eating dinner. Cheese and the crust. Not to mention any toppings like pepperoni or sausage etc. if you get a cheese pizza, which I am assuming you had with maybe some variation, the cheese is extremely high and rich in fat and causes delayed absorption of the carbs and, the crust. Guest guest
It sounds like you need the mozerella cheese, but soy mozarella is another option for those who do not want any fat atall. Guest guest
oh that is from the old ADA exchange diet. I.E you can have 3 starches for this meal, 2 starches for that meal, etc. instead of actually counting the carbs. starches meaning, 1 slice of bread, 1/2 cup of corn, etc. I.E exchange diet. bad bad since there is no carb counting in that. Guest guest
, My, my but this sure sounds familiar. The PKU folks also developed an exchange diet which was equally unreliable. In today's marketing scheme one had blamed well look at the product information and see just what is in it. With the nonsense over " net " carbs it is a real nightmare. Crystal brought home some " dietetic " cookies last night so I asked her to read the nutritional information. Well, there were only 8 net carbs per cookie and she was so excited because the cookies were nice and large. Upon closer examination we discovered that, indeed, these cookies contained less sugar - granulated that is. It would appear that they have substituted sugar alcohol for the white stuff - hmm? I am not sure I ever did get the " total " carb count on these cookies but Crystal did put them up in a safe place. Actually, that nutritional information was about as clear as mud. It alluded to total carbs per package - kinda - and was extremely vague about how many cookies constituted a package. This whole thing about product labeling is rapidly becoming a genuine horror story. Cy, the Ancient One & Grady, the Laboratory Retriever... . Re: pizza oh that is from the old ADA exchange diet. Guest guest
Only problem with the Splenda foods is that they usually do not make a 100% switch to Splenda. They replace SOME of the sugar with Splenda and the rest with other forms of sugar. I am sure that there are many products out there which did get their sugar completely replaced with Splenda but I am also certain that there are a lot of products which require very close scrutiny. Guest guest
Most baked goods made with Splenda have extra sugars in them because Splenda does not brown. However does not take much extra other sugars to make the product brown i.e.. a teaspoon. Guest guest
Hi Cy and gang; I was alarmed to find that Splenda sugar replacement had a Medical Doctor commenting on the fact that the *wonderful?*natural sweetner had many problems with it's ingredientscausing heart and kidnies not functioning properly and all sorts of other things mentioned in the doctor's report. Unfortunately my wife who showed it to me deleted it before I asked her to save the article. I'd imagine that this report would be available if we went into Google andt typed in Splenda, and did a search on these alarming facts!I thought that this product was perfectly safe...at least that's the impression I gotafter my wife read the info on the box.
