Guest guest
How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? I have a advantage monotor voice check acucheck and a one touch meter and The acucheck is as much as 35 points higher than the 1 check. we have been taking blood with both of them, and some times they are as close as 2 to 8 points togetherbut a lot of the time they are as much as 35 points. how do you kno which one is right? Guest guest
The Accu-check does not let you know if there is enough blood, but the One Touch does, doesn't it? I don't know why the Accu-check would be highigher unles the ONe touch has almsot enough blood, but not so much less that it would not warn you of " not enough blood " . blood testing meters How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
Dave, I am not so familiour with the advantage monotor voice check acucheck. Do you use the same kind of strips as used in the other meter? If they do, have you a test strip for the touch one monitor? Perhaps running the test strip through both meters, should give you a guideline to the answer to the problem. If this doesn't work, I would suggest you contact your diabetes team, and have them check both meters out. Rowe. blood testing meters > > How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
the Acu-check, adrian, uses strips called " comfort curve " . they have an indented curve with a little dot in the middle. It is real easy to find the dot as you can feel the cruve and you just wipe your finger across the curve. It also uses considerably less blood than does the One Touch. Guest guest
, These strips sounds like the ones that are being used on the Gluki Plus meter, which is being manufactured by a Austrian company called, CareTec GmbH. If this is the case, it's debatable if these strips could be accurate, as the manufacturers of this particular meter, will not pay the British authorities to valuate their monitor properly, so it can be granted a licence to be issued on the National Health, in the UK. In my view, if a company manufacturing a product for medical use, doesn't allow their product to be valuated for the safety of diabetics, then I would avoid it like the plague. . blood testing meters > > > > > > How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
yes, the one touch profile tells you in a loud voice " not enough blood " if the strip is not covered with enough blood. Guest guest
oh that plasma/whole blood really shouldn't be an issue. lifescan.com has a plasma to whole blood converter so folks can accurately use the one touch to plasma check their blood. A range of 80 to 120 on the one touch is 70 to 107. life scan is very open about this information and encourages folks to understand it and it is publically available. I'm sorry you didn't know about it. Regards, blood testing meters > > > > How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
I heard that when they went to the acu-check advantage. the round batteries were hard to get and cost to much . well, not too much but you couldn't hardly get them cause people used them for other purposes. and the triple A ones are always available to get. I'm glad they went to regular batteries. blood testing meters > > > > > > > > How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
yes, the accucheck measures in plasma, as do labs, so if your accucheck states 100 then you can assume you are ok. The one touch though, a reading of 90 is actually a plasma reading of 100. I.E you can measure plasma withthe one touch if you just know the plasma scale: 70 to 107 is a scale of 80 to 120 on the one touch. Guest guest
for anyone interested, if this attachment comes through, just open up the attached web page and it will open up locally on your computer and you can tinker some with converting whole blood readings, what is shown on the profile one touch, to plasma readings. Guest guest
My Voicemate/Acchuck Advantage, which is pretty old, uses the coin type batteries, but a newer Advantage we had gotten uses the triple-a batteries. I would guess that most new meters probably use the triple-a batteries because they're cheaper, reliable enough, and more easily found. Guest guest
The bottom line the way I see it is that, if I get blood work done, and my bg is 100 with the lab result, and near that with my meter, than I don't care whether it is plasma or whatever they want to measure as long as I conform to the official scale. What's with the plasma/whole blood thing anyway? If my Accuchek says I'm 100 ml/dl, then can I assume my bg is okay>? I have always assumed that the bg the lab measures is what the Accuchek measures. Guest guest
ya, is just different ways of measuring the amount of sugar in the blood. plasma is the prefered because that is what all labs use. Guest guest
understandable. I was just pointing out though that the one touch is easily converted to plasma if you know the scale of 70 to 107. Guest guest
I still recall a comparison between the 2 meters I once performed when my bg was 300 on the Profile, and 370 on the Accucheck. The higher the bg readings, the greater the point difference was. I remember thinking, if my bg is 370, then I want to know it is 370, and not think it is 300. But, at more normal ranges, the difference is proportionalitly less, and with a reading of let's say 130 on the Lifescan meter, and whatever on the Accucheck, 140 or 145 or whatever, it is not as big a deal. Still, if the lab says 100, then I would like my meter to also say 100 or very close. Dave blood testing meters > > > > How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
See, these companies think more for sighted people! discrimination. Re: blood testing meters there is always a 10% error in any of them so it really doesn't matter per say. I'd suggest to just stick with one and be done with it. They will always give different readings. In fact, even if you had two of the same exact models they would give different readings. Again, there is an expected 10% error in any meter reading.
