Guest guest
How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? I have a advantage monotor voice check acucheck and a one touch meter and The acucheck is as much as 35 points higher than the 1 check. we have been taking blood with both of them, and some times they are as close as 2 to 8 points togetherbut a lot of the time they are as much as 35 points. how do you kno which one is right? Thanks Dave
Guest guest
there is always a 10% error in any of them so it really doesn't matter per say. I'd suggest to just stick with one and be done with it. They will always give different readings. In fact, even if you had two of the same exact models they would give different readings. Again, there is an expected 10% error in any meter reading. HTH Regards, blood testing meters > How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
also make certain to clean them once a week since if they are dirty it will give odd results too. check your owners manual on how to clean them since there are strict guidelines as to how to clean them. Guest guest
, Think about this; While there is a 10% error range for any particular monitor if one meter was 10% high and the other 10% low that would be a 20% difference in the readings. Crystal's Ultra and her Ultra Smart are pretty close in their readings. They are also pretty consistent in their differences. Her Elite is consistently about 6% lower than either of the Ultras. While the Ultra Smart would not do a blind person any good it is pretty slick as you can enter the carbs you have consumed and attach them to your reading. It seems to me that you can also enter the medication dosage as well. Not at all bad huh? Guest guest
This subject goes way back, but as I recal, the Accucheck ?advantage (and perhaps others but not the One Touch models) reads the plasma. It was suggested that this is more accurate and I have found this this to be true when comparing my meter reading with a lab result whenever I have blood work done. You'll almost always get a different reading when doing a back to back check, but a few points difference is not important. When you have 50, 100 or whatever points difference as I noticed when I had been making the switch to the Accucheck from the One Touch many years ago was of great importance. I shutter to think back on the many years I had used the One Touch and Profile meters knowing now that a reading of 130 or whatever on one of them was really as much as 180 or 190 or so. Hopefully this is not the case with them today. Dave blood testing meters How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate? Guest guest
your a1c is what determines your success and progress, along with the meter, so keep on doing what you are doing and just make certain your a1c is between 5.0 to 5.5 a 10% error is not a huge deal really if your a1c is in that range. Guest guest
I just keep on the way I am with the 10 percent variable included. Re: blood testing meters so if there is a ten percent error, your saying it can be either ten percent better or worse? for example if mine read 110 i could be 11 points less or more then that, and if this is the case, how do i know, if i am doing okay, if i am at 110 each meal, and lets say for auguement sake, i am ten percent more then that, then that would put me above 120 correct, so do you have to account for that, or do i just keep on the way i am. shane blood testing meters > > > > How can you tell if a blood monitor is accurate?
