Re: What can I eat?

actually pat, talking to diabetics, if you can keep your a1c between 5.0

to

5.5 eat as many carbs as you want. However, you will quickly find out

that

to maintain a good a1c like that, you more than likely can not eat more

than

20 to 30 grams of carbs per meal. I eat 90 grams total a day, 30

breakfast,

30 lunch, 30 dinner, and run an a1c of 5.3 consistently. That is, if I am

good boy and eat only 30 at each meal *grin*. Do it 90% of the time and

you'll live a long and productive life.

BTW yes, if you are wanting to lose weight, cut your carbs back to 45 a

day.

If you are already a diabetic, try limiting them to 30 per meal, or

less,

and see how well your sugars run.

Throw in a large tossed salad with your meal packed full of good meats,

your

favorite salad dressing, and be done with it *smile*

Pat,

One of the greatest problems I have observed is the enormous amount of

mis-information abounding from folks who are NOT Diabetic.

When you combine this with the misleading information on the product

content blurb on packages counting carbs becomes a real challenge.

Poor Crystal is an outstanding example of half reading information on

the packages.

She will spot something which claims only 7 carbs per serving and get

all excited until we take a close look and find that, indeed, 1/4 cup of

the product does contain only 7 net carbs.

Now, when you investigate further you find that a normal serving

actually contained 40 total carbs.

The very best example of this is still the chocolate cake mix which, in

28 point type, proclaimed only 7 net carbs but when you looked at the

side panel you discovered that a very small slice of cake contained 35

total carbs. (It would have taken 3 or 4 of the small slices to make a

real slice) You were probably looking at just over 100 or so carbs per

real serving.

I have just sent a web site which sets a goal of a 1C of 7 for

Diabetics, another piece of mis information which will cause numerous

folks to put themselves in jeopardy long term.

Just keep up the good works folks, we will eventually win this war.

Try some olives stuffed with Jalapeno peppers - awesome!!!

Crystal has learned to like pork skins. Pace mild salsa goes a long way

if you just dip the skin in it.

Crystal is a complete woos (wimp, panty waist, softie or whatever name

you refer to someone who thinks Sloppy Joe mix is extra hot)

When it comes to nice, warm Jalapenos sliced on a burger. They really

give a little zip to the project. In case you want something a little

warmer try Habaneras, they are really good.

Now my friend , how did you calculate the 30 carbs for the

Cheerios, skim milk and splenda and, as for that " small " potato it sure

must be a teenie weenit thing to only have 15 carbs! Hmm?

I nailed Crystal this morning on her Cheerios. She tried to tell me that

a serving only had 8 carbs and I told her that it was snowing outside. A

serving of Cheerios has 22 carbs. One of Crystal's major problems is

that she is Dyslexic and sometimes jumbles the numbers and letters. On

the other hand, I sometimes think it is " Selective Dyslexia " . (very

large, cheesy smile)

lol. to funny Cy.

BTW regular cherios actually have 11 carbs in a serving/3/4 of a cup. that

is, on my box. My milk, skim milk, is 12 grams per serving 1 cup. So, I

round up to 30 since that meal is / has a 30 gram effect on my sugar even

though it is under 30 grams per say.

oh BTW honey nut cherios, in a serving, has 24 carbs.
