Guest guest
Hi there Myrlene!! Welcome to our group! Myrlene, you don't need to hear from a senior citizen to find out that taking Armour thyroid is far, far superior than the Synthroid you are taking! (I am 51---let's see, not quite a " senior " but knocking on the door???) Armour contains exactly what your own thyroid would be giving you-- T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin (the latter which helps to transport calcium from your blood to your bones.) What you are taking is simply T4. It's a storage hormone, and it's meant to convert to the active T3. But in most folks, it appears to NOT be converting to an adequate amount, leaving you with symptoms that you have no idea are related to a less-than-optimal T3 level!!! And GOOD FOR YOU for considering it!! Armour is JUST as available as Synthroid---you'll just need that doc to write a prescription. And Myrlene, if your doc hesitates........or says it is dangerous......or says Armour is consistent.....he is NOT the best doc for you. There are docs to consider in the Top Doc lists in the LINKS section of this site. ALSO, there are great articles to read in the FILES section of this site. As far as your past heart issues---your doc can monitor your heart along the way. He may have you start on a moderate dose, and only increase gradually. The T3 in Armour can initially aggravate heart problems, but they do adjust!!!!!!! Remember, Armour is only giving you the EXACT same substances your OWN thyroid would be giving you. It's fabulous, has been around for over 100 years, and has changed the lives of many of us here!! Keep us informed! We are glad you are here!!
