You're right: immune problems. Heparin & aspirin are common remedies

for antiphospholipid antibodies and I think some other similar

problems in which the placenta gets attacked by the body's own

defenses. You find out either by doing bloodwork and/or by examining

the placenta for damage. I take 1 baby aspirin/day because I have

PCOS, which tends to encourage miscarriage by hastening clotting.

Baby ASA helps this quite a bit.

Thanks for the info. You know, my last m/c my OB was sending the tissue to

be tested, and I never heard back - that was Oct. I think I'd like to hear

about it. I'm pretty convinced my septum is the root of the problem, but

would like to know if there were other problems in advance.

Hi

I will try to explain the heparin and aspirin case with me ....

I have tested positive to having antiphosphilipid antibodies

(cardiolipin). APS it is known as. This is quite often a linked to

having a primary problem such as lupus or perhaps rheumatoid

arthritis (although not always so, ie you can have these and not have

APS!) - typically they are auto immune conditions.

With me it is just a *confused* immune system (being very polite

here). My platelets run very low yet, when I am pg, I have a problem

with the antibodies who believe it is there job to stop the

pregnancy. This is done by clot forming. So the idea of the heparin

and the aspirin togther is to thin the blood and, hopefully, prevent

this happening. For my last pg I needed 2x daily heparin injections

and one baby aspirin a day.

I know there have been clinical trials recently whereby the use of

baby aspirin is used in conjunction with IVF treatments as it is

believed that thinning the blood can help with implantation.

But any taking of aspirin in pg has to be done with your doctor's

consent as it can also carry risks.

Not sure this is the best explanation. I know you'll find loads more

about it on the Inciid board.

Best wishes

Tor
