Sydney,

There seems to be 2 cases-one with the fluids and one that bled to death.Anyway

I hope we can get to

the bottom of it.

Now I remember the story. It was in the NY papers. The surgery was done at Beth

Israel hospital. One doctor is now at a hospital in Staten Island, NY. I don't

know about the other one.

They used experimental equipment which was not approved by the hospital. They

also had a salesman in surgery who was not authorized.

Well, I actually do know of one doc practicing in the NE who came from

Canada after fleeing from a malpractice suit. Regardless of the country

and the flight of the doc, docs do this to protect themselves and

continue practicing. And there really is very little that we can do to

determine the background info of many, many docs. Wish there were.

I cannot be 100% sure but feel pretty sure it happened

at Beth isreal in lower Manhattan. It was a freak

accident because they were trying out a new machine to

purchase and allowed the sales rep. to do the demo on

this patient's surgery. Crazy isn't it?

Well malpractice is not very common in Canada.I do not know what NE stands

for,but I do not think it

matters.

If the patient knew that the doctor came from Canada and that should be

information available,through

the local U.S, liscensing board- " where did he receive medical training? " Then

the patient could

called The College of Physicians and Surgeons for that province and ask if he

was a member in good

standing. Now he could be fleeing malpractise and the patient never filed a

complaint with the

college, but somehow I would find it unlikely.,but plausible.

Also a doctor must have a liscense for each individual state .It would not be

possible,I would

think, for the State of California to liscense someone who had any marks against

their record.The

liscensing for the State of California is one of the most difficult exams to

pass.Now maybe if he

were going from Canada to Maine, that might be easier, maybe his Canadian liscense

would almost

" automatically " be accepted.However,I know for a fact,since I have friends and a

family member who

are liscensed in the State of California, that the board exams would be very

difficult to pass,and any

indiscretion listed with the College would make the applicant ineligble.

Best,

Bonnie

Carla,

Sorry,I am doing what you just asked us not to-but just a thought re:death and

hyster,and death and

myo.

Would you have the statistics on this? How many deaths, per capita, lets say for

each procedure.

Also, really, from my gut feeling,I would not ,under any circumstances let a

doctor do surgery on ME

who had had a patient die in surgery previously. Not unless the surgery was so

complex that world

statistics put survival at very low and this was life saving-lets say certain

types of brain surgery.

This is how I feel someone else might say " accidents happen " and be very

comfortable.I would be a

complete basket case and it would be entirely 100% against my better judgement

and intuitive sense.

Best,

Bonnie

P.S. Next time I'll " bundle " my message,but I thought I was finished and got up

to do something else

and it hit me.
