Guest guest
I think I'll put my two cents worth in here. The way DelJunco's office told me was like it is a competition btwn the doctors who say they can save any uterus... and even past that, a matter of the doctor wanting to preserve his reputation for being a God in this area. So the thinking was that when they are confronted with a case, where perhaps there is a problem they don't want to admit it, maybe even to themselves. From what I have seen posted here, West has this attitude in another area...post-operative pain. He refused to admit it could be there with his expertise! According to DelJunco, only HE has all the right combination of procedures to ensure a safe result. Of course, I have a problem with that too. That just dosen't seem right. At present, I am looking for someone in the middle btwn one of the " hot shots " and they ones with little or no myo experience. --- margaretleo@... wrote: > The New York State Department of Health has a > website which gives information on doctors who have > been sited for various violations. Guest guest
I don't know about the newspaper, I don't know if it made news. I will try to figure something out tmw, maybe going back to the horses mouth. I'm kind of sorry I brought it up, I guess the way I heard about it I thought it was common knowledge and wanted to know how these women came to terms with it and wanted to know more about West's office, hospital, etc since they had postivie experiences. I'll see what I can find out tmw and let you guys know. - B --- Bonnie Andrukaitis wrote: > , > Would please appoint yourself.Sigh > .I think a lot of us are interested and I think it > needs clearing. Is the NY Times idea crazy or good? > > Best, > Bonnie > > Belzer wrote: > > > Yes you all have that right....but this was > ANOTHER > > woman according to DelJunco. Guest guest
I saw the dateline show. From what I remember there was new piece of equipment being demonstrated at this hospital and they failed to take precautions. It was outrageous and a very unnecessary death. - B --- Bonnie Andrukaitis wrote: > Donna, > I have a friend over at CBS cuttting for 60 Mins. > I'll check in with her tomorrow to see if she knows > more. How does one die from that? Its not even open > abdominal surgery > Best,Donna, > Bonnie > > Donna Jung wrote: > > > Bonnie, > > > > I think it was a hysteroscopic myomectomy. Guest guest
bastard hotshots. what arrogance. the hippocratic oath should be read daily. a requirement, not the Wall Street Journal. I was in an ICU once when an incompetent chief of staff got pissed because the heart surgeon Fred did an emergency tracheotomy on his patient, a 28 year old woman, and saved her. I thought Fred would deck the arrogant dick. Fred said, " at least she isn't blue now, " bastids. I'm sorry, there is no room whatsoever for arrogance. The " hey look at me, aren't I cool, I can do these procedures faster than you can, " school of egoism. Sorry for the rant. But these are our bodies! Guest guest
I remember that report vividly as I had the same complication (but am alive to talk about it!). She was having hysteroscopic resection of the fibroid, the nurse reportedly warned the doctor that the measurement of fluid " in " and " out " was indicating a fluid imbalance but apparently he thought he knew better. In my case, the measurement was taken frequently and they stopped the procedure when they felt that it was too dangerous (which is exactly what they are supposed to do). I don't remember the name of the doctor, but do remember it was in NY and was really freaked about it as I felt it could have been me under less capable hands! Guest guest
Bonnie, I'm fuzzy on the details but the fluid overload causes an electrolyte imbalance. This brings your blood pressure dangerously low--in my case (I also had this complication) I spent the rest of the day in the recovery room trying to get my blood pressure back up. I'm not sure how someone dies from this, i.e. what the next step is, but that's the part I do know. Sydney At 06:34 PM 3/14/2001 -0500, you wrote: >? Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I remember that case last year where that young woman died as a result of a myomectomy and I know for a fact that was not Dr. West's patient. I believe she was given too much fluid during the procedure. Guest guest
What you want doesn't really exist. The info on my " Doctors " and " Medical Boards " pages on my website will help you to do a fair amount of sleuthing online....but, if you want info across all states (mind you, a bad doc in Canada who migrates to the U.S. won't, necessarily, have history detailed in this!) and don't mind paying a small fee, the best service right now is: Medi-Net Actually, it's now called Searchpointe and the database is actually accessible online these days. for a fee. http://www.searchpointe.com/ Otherwise, you would need to do a state by state background check on any doctor you want info on because most doctors are licensed in multiple states. Just in case they lose their license in one state, it might be possible to retain it in another. Like with Vicki Hufnagel. Lost her license in California. Then New York. But still has her license in Hawaii. Can't really practice the surgery she touts as her cornerstone there though cuz she can't seem to get malpractice insurance or hospital privileges in the state....but she's still licensed there. The other tool is, of course, the Public Citizen (?) documents published annually. But it too is state by state and you'd need to whole set (about $400 or so) to verify listings for any given doc against all states. BTW, I wrote a post earlier on tracking down singular deaths related to myo or hyst...but don't know where it went. Did some individual on the list group receive it instead of the whole list group? If so, could you forward it to the group or back to me? I didn't save it in my sent file but would like it posted. Somewhere around 700 deaths due to hyst occur each year. Roughly 11/10,000. Tracking down a single death from hyst or myo is kind of pointless, in my opinion, that is. Morbidity/mortality stats from hyst & myo are roughly the same but we just don't hear much about any of these. Even less so with myo cuz a whole lot less of them are performed each year. ~650,000 hysts vs. ~40,000 myos. Women die from a variety of causes -- not all of which are the doc's fault. But, doctors are human and there is always risk with ANY procedure. Carla winniebernier@... wrote: > Thanks for the info Marsha. Guest guest
Well, at my last consultation, in Santa , plush office, top notch credentials.... the guy in his 50's told me that " we do the same things here that you have researched " . He was indignant. But when questioned, he had not heard of harmonic scalpel, thought laser was too much trouble to do the training for and get certified on, and they cost too much (I'm sure he could afford it) and he does maybe 3 myo's a year and dislikes them and told me my only option was hyst. He went on to say that any doctor who told me differently was LYING to me and that I would still wake up with a hyst....that they were just trying to get the business. I'm telling you some of this is just disgusting. - B --- GG Schaumburg wrote: > bastard hotshots. what arrogance. the hippocratic > oath should be read daily. a requirement, not the > Wall Street Journal. Guest guest
Hi , If you could get the details of this story from Dr. DelJunco's office I think it would be beneficial. Like I told you during my preoperative consultation with Dr. West I specifically asked him has one of his patients ever died as a result of surgery with him and he told me no. If this story is not true I would hate to see Dr. West's reputation ruined. Guest guest
, In defense of Dr. West, yes he did say his patients don't have pain. Pain in his words meaning discomfort requiring pain medication. However, you are hooked up to a morphine pump for at least 12 hours after surgery so you can administer your own pain medication. After you are taken off the pump you are then prescribed pain medication which you can request from the nurse. I had my one week post op visit with Dr. West today. He took the steri strips off of my incision and said my incision looked good and the surgery went well. I live in New Jersey and I travel to his office in Manhattan by bus and train. I felt stiff and a little sore but it wasn't bad. He said I should have no problem conceiving (I'm 36). I find Dr. West to be a very caring and compassionate individual. Compared to my other friends who had myomectomies with other doctors I think my recovery is much quicker and level of pain much less. Guest guest
, Do you think you could put up with me? Look I think it is important because I have very similar sorta intuition abt West-all this " dr.West's patients have no pain " business is just b.s. in my opinion. He still cuts,it still hurts. It sounds guru-ish if you know what I mean.?I think that whatever case we are talking about and there appears to be more than one,one of them made the papers for sure, because this writer I was calling had seen it in the papers.I am looking at the same factors here as you are and backing away from any " start " business.Which isn't to say that West isn't good etc. Are you 100% sold on having surgery in NY? How big are your devils? Best, Bonnie Belzer wrote: > Like I said, since I brought this up, I will get the > answer somehow tmw. Guest guest
Sydney, There seems to be 2 cases-one with the fluids and one that bled to death.Anyway I hope we can get to the bottom of it.
