The one I got did NOT have enriched flour. It was whole wheat flour. Most of

the 'wheat' English muffins and bagels are actually made with enriched flour,

yes. (and these are not SBD legal due to the enriched flour)

The ones I got were Pepperidge Farm, I do believe. And, nothing enriched in the

ingredients.

---Question: If 'Enriched White' is a no no, how is 'Enriched Whole

Wheat'any better? I thoght the word " Enriched " anything was to be

avoided like the plague???Doesn't it mean it has all the natural

nutrients ground out of it for more simplied processing and baking??

Anyone who knows??

Re enriched flour. Where did this idea that enriched flour is " bad "

come from? AFAIK enrichment simply means adding vitamins and

nutrients to flour. See

http://www.canadianmillers.ca/flour_enrichment.htm

While the info is Canadian it quite clearly shows US requirements.

BTW - Deanne. I doubt if you can find Oakrun English Muffins since

they're made in Ancaster ON but the Ontarians should be able to find

them. They have 100% Whole Wheat ones. 2.3 g Dietary Fibre. Nice

thing is - they're usually on sale!

I bought some Nature's Own Light Honey Wheat bread last night because

it had the most fibre of any of the bread on the shelves at Kroger -

5 grams - and it is delicious...but....it is enriched and has the

high fructose corn syrup....darn...can't win for losing with this

stuff sometimes you know? You try to do right and get the bread with

all the fibre and Bam!

Odds are, it jsut said "Enriched Wheat Flour" and not "Enriched Whole Wheat Flour".

Definitely avoid anything that has 'enriched' in the ingredients.

Enriched wheat is just as bad as enriched white. Hopefully, you'll see the big post that somebody else sent, full of information about 'enriched' products.

Isn't it a pain??? Be cautious of "Honey Wheat"... this usually means they have some sort of sweetener added to the bread. And, you'll get into the habit of checking ingredients. Usually, you only have to look for the first ingredient.... either enriched, or whole wheat flour.

Yes, that is a good amount of fiber. Now to find a bread that tastes good, has fiber as needed, AND is whole grain!
