coffee, med weans

I have had to use brewed coffee to help my daughter with her bowel movements. I use it two of three days on the 3 day regimen of keeping her regular...just mix it with the crushed tabs of meds (medicines, vitamins) she gets in the AM....it's not much: 20 ccs, but it's doing the trick. It's cut down on the disimpacting, too.

One of my pals, who's daughter has been tube fed (but not on "the Diet") for 32 years uses Mountain Dew pop to keep her DeeDee going. The suggestion to her a few years ago from a dietitian has helped them not have to use harsh medicinal laxatives.

So I modified what she does, eliminating the sugar. And now my daughter, 13, doesn't strain to have her bms and then seize because of the awful straining and pushing.

has been a ketokid since 1995. "We" still have seizing, but that's a different story due to "our" disease process.

I'm completing a med wean right now: off Depakote and onto Trileptal. So far, it's just fine. Have weaned on and off a large number of items in the past. Took her off about 20 necessary items once the Baclofen pump was implanted....now, THAT WAS A GOOD ADDITION to her care. I'd been trying to get that for three years before it was finally "installed."

And that's another story, and I have chores to do and then we have places to go and people to see. Have to be out of here @ 2 pm...better get hustling and work off some of my Dove candy from last night.

Happy Saturday--

Carol
