I don't know if it makes a difference, but I take Vitamin C right after I've swallowed the iron pill. I'd read that it helps your body to absorb the iron better. Guest guest
I've had nausea from Slow Fe when I've taken it overnight or first thing in the morning on a completely empty stomach. I find that the best time for me to take it is between breakfast and lunch or between lunch and dinner. If I have breakfast at 9:00, I'll take iron at about 11:00 and eat lunch at about 12:30. Nauseau and no energy today Just wondering if nauseau from iron pills (the slow FE kind) can last several hours! I just have felt nauseau and not too full of energy today. I thought iron gives you energy!
Guest guest
I do not take Slo Fe but I have taken ferrous sulfate(iron) and have always been advised to take with meals to avoid naseau. Also,I have heard that taken with vitamin C does indeed help absorption.I would like to add that all forms of iron, long acting or otherwise should be monitored.Iron should not be taken unless one is anemic, and hemoglobin should be measured from time to time to see where the levels are. Many foods also contain iron and can be considered alone if anemia is not grave or with iron to improve hemoglobin even further.Foods are not toxic. All leafy greens, spinach, swiss chard, broccolli, etc.are high in iron as is calves' liver and bacon.Always take iron under the supervision of a doctor. Guest guest
I've always taken ferrous gluconate. The ferrous sulfate and ferrous fumerate both upset my stomach. Ferrous fumerate is the worst at upsetting my stomach and giving me diahrea. Sometimes the upset can last from six in the morning untill 9:30 or 10:00.
