(Reference: DevNetJobs.org) Background With an estimated 5.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS India has the second largest number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world. In recent years there has been considerable rise in the number of HIV infections among women and girls. HIV infection is mediated by almost the same set of factors that also cause vulnerability to trafficking viz. poverty and inequality, poor and unequal access to services, unsafe population mobility/migration, gender and patriarchal norms, and gender-based violence. Unsafe migration involves particular risks for women and children, which include the risk of being trafficked into an exploitative situation (including but not limited to the sex trade); the risk of being sexually exploited; the risk of contracting HIV and other health complications. In view of this, the National Project on Prevention of HIV and Trafficking in Women and Girls (TAHA) has been initiated by UNDP in partnership with National AIDS Control Organization and the Department of Women and Child, with funding support from DfID.
