Guest guest
, The amount of time it takes for RAI to be excreted from your body depends on the amount given (and considering the half life of the RAI). Typically, after a dose of 200 mc, it has taken about 3 days of hospital isolation for me to be " acceptable in public " and therefore discharged. Although it is not suggested here, pushing fluids helps to move the RAI from the body since it is excreted by the kidneys. However, one of the physicians here made a good point by saying that we do not necessarily want to flush the RAI from our systems as it may not stick around long enough to work. On the other hand, as a young woman, I was concerned about my ovaries and have always had large amounts of liquid following my 4 treatments. Fortunately, I have a healthy, and happy 22 month old son now. So, it was worth it for me. Another case in point, studies show that there seems to be no link between RAI and infertility in patients given therapeutic doses of RAI. Therefore, we can probably rest assured that we are doing the right thing for ourselves while at the same time extending and enhancing our lives. Hope this helps... Guest guest
If what you are asking ishow long it takes for the RAI to finish killing thyroid cells, it may take six or eight months for thyroid tissue to die from the effects of RAI. I don't know, but I suspect that the majority of the cell death takes place soon after receiving RAI with a decreasing amount over time. Tg taken very soon after RAI might be a very inaccurate measure of how effective the treatment was. (hcc) lweitenhagen@... wrote: I have a question, How long does RAI stay in your system? How long after your RAI would a Tg level be accurate? Thanks.
