Guest guest
I think I am going to cut down to 25 mg of DHEA a day for awhile since I have broken out in about 5 pimples in the last week and my face is very oily. I am not sure if it is my work environment or the DHEA but I will cut it down and see if it helps. Single dose.. multi-dosing. Sublingually, swallow? > I take my dose of DHEA in the AM with thyroid meds (I am a swallower, having found no difference in dosing once and swallowing in the AM or dosing several times an dissolving...I prefer it all in the AM) But my holistic MD - the one who put me on the DHEA, recommended - as I said - the Pure Encapsulations brand - because it is micronized and somehow more useable that way - not because he was selling them - he didn't care where I bought them - before they actually went OTC with DHEA he prescribed it from Women's International 50mg.(I get the Pure micronized online from a chiro at myvitanet.com) They are capsules...once a day - he thought AM upon rising was best. When after 6 months, my DHEA levels went from way below normal to the very higest end of normal, he kept me on the 50mgs dose, because he felt the dramatic response I had to it meant something as well as the numbers..(kind like thyroid)..then I was on it for the next 8-1/2 years - still 50mg. Did not test my DHEA again...once when one girl in his office remarked that the 50mg was a high dose for a woman, I went down to 25 mg....at my next appt. two months later, he asked how my joint pain in my ankles and knees were - I said, " Hmmm...it's kind of back again - in fact I've had some weeks where they really have been hurting again " he said " You are still taking the 50mg. DHEA, correct? I said - no - he said - why - I said told me it was a high dose..he said don't listen to , get back on the 50 - this is why the joint pain is back! I am going to a different holistic DO now...as good or better than my original, but he has a way of billing my Blue Cross so that they pay for the majority of my office visit, etc with him. I told him of the 50mg...he was okay with it, as long as I am not getting acne, facial hair (my hubbs likes the beard..LOL) oily face (which I do have, but it doesn't bother me - less wrinkles, I figure)...so, last August so many people were bad- mouthing DHEA and at the healthfood store they freak when you tell them you want 50mg...I thought maybe I should stop - I stopped for a month - the arthritis didn't come back..my face got dry as a mummy...nothing seemed much different...so I thought I will go back on 5 mg. a day..but they were out of 5 so I got 10mg. Whew! out of breath from the long story! But I think this is something people should take into account about DHEA - if it works for you, it works!! Meanwhile, my son has a adrenal exhaustion and his DHEA was way high - the doctor was not worried about it, but did put him on Cortef. The high DHEA doesn't seem to worry holistic doctors too much unless they are fine tuning and that is the only thing they find that seems out of skew.
