The thing about frying is that the meat sits in the hot oil to cook. The

low-fat people advocate broiled or baked because the oil can drain off. When

you grill the oil drops into the fire.

But if you fry in a good oil like olive oil, the food absorbs (what little

it does) only good oil.

I still go sparingly on the oil when frying. I hate cleaning up pools of

used oil in my pans!

Yes, you can 'fry' in olive oil in a pan. Just don't overdo it, or you'll have a soggy mess.

same thing, I was wondering why the SBD book says you can sautee but

not fry!!(I am looking at the SB Diet Cookbook)

Frying is when you put a bunch of oil in the pan and " boil " the food in the

oil. Sauteeing is when you give the pan a slick of oil to increase the

temperature at which the food is cooked.

ROTFLOL....oh good I can sleep at nite knowing I have not broken any

of the cardinal rules of fryin vs. sauteeing!! I just coated the fry

pan with swipe of olive oil(enough to keep fish from sticking) and

then I drizzed maybe a tsp of it over the fish for my daily dose

of " good fat " ..I get a kick out of the cookbook cuz it refers to how

the Greeks used to have their bread and oil on the table and they

just dipped their bread in it and I'm thinking: " oh yuck " that would

be reason enough for me to give up bread forever!! LOL

Macaroni Grill here in Ca serves a French bread

with what they call “Italian butter” They pour olive oil into a plate and grind

some cracked pepper into it. Way good,

but alas a thing of the past.

True french bread is sourdough-based, which can be an

acceptable

starch - the acid slows down the digestion. So

maybe you can have a

bit :-)

I *love* bread dipped in olive oil. They do that in many restaurants around

here! Truly... I agree to not knock it to you tried it!

It might be an acquired taste... but, I think it is delicious!
