Hi. I had a myomectomy in 1994 after suffering for 7 years. The first three

years, my male doctors told me that it was my imagination. The next four

years I spent looking for a doctor who did not recommend a hysterectomy since

I had never had any children and wanted to have a family. Finally, after

Lupron failed, I had a myomectomy in October, 1994. The procedure went

smoothly and the doctor informed me that I had five years before the fibroids

would grow back. I was hospitalized for one week and was hooked on a pva

(morphine). After discharge from the hospital, I was off work for 8 weeks.

The first two weeks, I was very uncomfortable. It was painful just to go to

the restroom and I returned to my mother's house for care since I was unable

to make meals and perform those daily duties. After the first couple of

weeks, the regular routine was more manageable, however, I still had a

significant amount of pain and relied quite heavily on the pain pills.

However, the great news was that my period was fantastic. It went from 10

days (heavy bleeding) - saturated pads and tampons --- changing every hour to

3 Days, really light flow. This was my cycle which lasted for three years.

(Smiling).

In 1997, I knew the fibroids were returning because my cycle changed. The

flow became steadily more heavy until 1999, when each cycle was 8 days of

very heavy bleeding. Now, I have numerous fibroids and my uterus is the size

of a 16 week fetus. I also have cycles every other week, with varying

degrees of intensity. In fact, last week, I elected to stay home and sit in

the bathroom the entire day, because I was so tired from getting up every

hour and changing. It is really exhausting. Decision day is rapidly

approaching because when I reflect upon those three years of really having a

life, I want that time again.

I hope my story gives some additional insight. Here's to restoring our

lives.
