Gloria,

Welcome!! First question, what other food allergies do you have to contend with?

we dealt with wheat/dairy RAST verified allergies and a possible celiac; we are doing the Gluten challenge now to see if that's the case... but rice, potatoes, chickpeas, that sort of thing; as long as it doesnt have wheat, barley, rye, oats and the ever present malt/barley malt, are fine. we stuck w/ a very basic diet to start, cutting out all breads, etc. and my son did great..

THe GF diet is great for the celiac issue; but if you have other allergies; you need to steer clear of them as well... ;o) or else you may still feel real cruddy. You really don't have to deprive yourself on the diet, there are commercial foods that are GF, some cereals, breads, etc but they have to be ordered or found at a health food store... and of course staying very basic with fruits, meats, veggies, rice are all very healthy!!

Ask away on the diet, there are great links in the files section... and if you can point me to the different types of foods you need to steer clear of, I may be able to suggest some other sites as well.

Introduction

Hi Everyone,

I'm a new member of Siily Yaks and would like to introduce myself.

I've been recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Someone recommended the Breaking the Vicious Cycle site and food plan to me. I spent some time going over it and was quite discouraged by how limited it was especially since I have many food allergies and my food is limited to start with. I also have worked with an eating addiction for many years and deprivation is not good for my recovery.

I joined this group to find out more about other options in terms of diet. I'm wondering how others with this disease do if they continue to eat foods like rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, chickpeas. Have you found that being on a gluten-free diet heals other food allergies?

I'm 61 years old and live in Colorado with my 4 1/2 year-old Bichon puppy named McRae. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Hi everyone,

I am in week 2 of phase I of the South Beach. I

was on Atkins for about 10 months and had pretty good results. I lost

about 25 pounds but had 2 problems. First, I could never lose the final

10-15 pounds I wanted to. Perhaps the change will do me good.

Second, and more importantly, while the combination of following Atkins and

exercise greatly helped my HDL, Triglycerides, ratio, and heart disease risk, it

raised my LDL and thus my total cholesterol beyond my comfort level. I

hope that with more emphasis on good fats on South Beach, I will be

able lower my LDL and total cholesterol (and further raise my HDL and lower my

Triglycerides even more). The ricotta cheese desserts have been great.

I also prepared the cilantro mayonnaise this week and started snacking on the

turkey rollups as well. I am crazy about those.
