We use rectal valium for clusters and prolonged sz as well. My most recent

use for Hannah was when she had back to back complex partial sz, each about

10-15 minutes, long but all up going for nearly an hour. I was told to use

the valium for partial sz of 15 mins so I had not reached for it after each

one had ceased spontaneously. After an hour I decided it was time to act,

gave 5 ml and the cluster stopped, she had a short nap and woke 1/2 hour

later sounding very normal!!!!

The other times I've used rectal valium have all been to stop tonic clonic

sz. which have lasted 10 minutes.

We also only have rectal diazipam (same as valium??) for

emergencies. We've given them for clusters of secondary

generalized sleep-seizures without much success. However

it was the same drug that they gave as a drip in the hospital for

a long partial status. At that time my son fell asleep and woke

up feeling OK.

Yes Saro, diazepam is the drug name and valium is the brand name. epam is also available as other brand names.
