Guest guest
Lynnie, I must have missed some post about detoxifying but from my past experiences it may not be a good idea with Amy to do any fasting type thing. And some things people without metabolic disorders do to cleanse is harmful to us. I was put on psyllium seed one time and ended up doubled over with a pain reaction. Also going off foods you are sensitive to and then you get them again can be devastating as per my wheat fasting and testing experiment. I personally wouldn't take anyone off medication that is helping them either. I wonder if chelation therapy is something that would work here. I only heard bits of that so you'd have to find out the story with that but I think that is a cleansing process. S. Guest guest
OH, my thought is this (don't I ALWAYS have a thought or a jillion of them?). Doing a 3 day well water only fast is how I learned about our metabolic blocks and inborn errors of metabolism. I realized if I was so well mentally and physically not eating then ..........But I was not as severely afflicted as many are so I could do that. S. Guest guest
Dear All: I am not very knowlageable about wholistic medicine or supliment talking, with the exception of taking Carnitor. Can some of you who are more aware of this tell me how does it work to detoxify a patient who can't possably exist w/o the meds she is on? Considering Amy's seizure, dementia, and hypoglycemic issues, I don't understand how I could ever even consider taking her of anything in order to cleanse her system! I'd love to hear from you, Lynnie

Guest guest
Lynnie, I would be very cautious about giving your daughter anything that your mito doctor hasn't okayed. So many of the naturopathic medicines are not yet fully understood. My neighbour invited me to talk to a woman who tired to convince me my daughter would benefit from taking blue-green algae. Well I decided not to do it because everything she said was very ambiguous and vague. It was a good thing I didn't because I just read in the paper that this blue-green algae contains a bacteria that causes liver damage in children and it should not be taken. So little is known about mito disease that I personally think it is risky to try new things without knowing it is very very safe for the person. As for detoxifying, I think the best detoxifier we have is our own liver and if healthy it does a pretty amazing job of detoxifying all the medications we put in our body and all the toxic chemicals our body produces itself. Please remember this is just my own opinion. I wouldn't ever do anything w/out my daughter's Doc's supervision. Heck, I won't even give her CoQ 10 because it isn't FDA approved and all the suplements out there have additives and who knows what else in them! I had recently read some wholistic info & just wondered what others on the list thought about this aspect!! Thanks for your thoughts on the subject. Guest guest
Re: cleansing the system while on necessary meds: Dear Lynnie, first the credo: Don't do anything without your doc's ok. Some cleansing/ detox agents could wash out the meds, and you don't want to do that. How about changing where the foods she eats (if not tube fed, can't remember, but so tired...) Have you tried taking her to a chiropractor, or going yourself? Ours does accupuncture meridians with a light electrical stim., and at the Abilities Expo I bought a type of accupuncture that is done with suction cups, no penetration of the skin, and comes with a 46pg. book... I'll keep y'all posted....Oh, I just love puns, especially with melted butter in the morning.... Love, Kate
