A lot of the draw to 12 step programs is that people in meetings usually

talk about 'how happy they are' and how AA 'saved their life.' But then you

try to talk to them or find out things about their life and the reality just

doesn't match up. A lot of self proclaimed " content " people in 12 step

groups can't stand to be alone, have other vices (smoking, gambling, sexual,

work addiction) and are in general, very defensive, insecure people. This

causes a lot of confusion among newcomers who think, " well, these people

sure sound like they're happy. And, they tell some great stories of

recovery. "

If all you do is listen to what people say, you might get into

trouble. Just look at most politicians. They all talk a good game but they

don't do anything. I think most people in the program like to see they're

lives as a " Behind The Music(A musical biography program on VH-1) " special.

Where they 'fall into drug addiction, lose everything, hit bottom, find God

or AA and bounce back. And then they live happily ever after. The end.'

Oh, if only it worked that way! If only, as human beings we ever got

THERE!! you know, that happy place in life where everything's wonderful.

The reason we never get there, is it doesn't exist. No matter

where you are in life things are still not going to go your way. There's

always traffic to deal with, bills to pay, people that disagree with you,

bad weather, job changes,etc.. A lot of stuff that's out of your control.

Now, AA want's you to believe that one day, you'll reach a point

where none of that stuff bothers you. It just doesn't effect your serenity.

What a con job. And its a wonder AA members are so cynical and negative.

Hello MD Matt!

You're quite right! AA is seeking Nirvana, a condition where you are

physically, psychically and socially at ease at the same time and for

ever.

This is, BTW, the same ideal as WHO is recommending as a measure of

health.

Which means that anything beside is an expression of disease.

If you don't believe me, read WHO's plan " Health for All in 2000 " .

Bjørn

P.S.

Nirvana is after death, which means that AA is a death culture!

b(j)orn again.
