Guest guest
We have been taking our 16 year old son who has Asperger's for neurofeedback for almost a year now. Initially, we took him because he had trouble sleeping and I had read that neurofeedback helps a lot of people with sleep problems. We have seen many positive changes during the past 11 months. The sleep issues were resolved within the first month. Then we started noticing that he was doing more homework; could have been because he was sleeping better. But, over the summer he started being more responsible about his hygiene and keeping track of his belongings. His first quarter in school this year has been amazing. He is keeping track of his assignments and making good grades. He is also making friends! Kids do change and mature, but he has never made progress like this in the past so I think that the neurofeedback is a big part of his progress.See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Guest guest
April, Who does this? I am very interested. Do the insurance companies, ie; Medicaid, help with this cost? Guest guest
Weston Psychological Associates, Dr. Rick , Psy.D, 17100 Royal Palm in Weston, phone . It is $205/session. Our insurance paid for most of it at first. Then we negotiated an amount that we could afford. We started out going 2 times a week. After a couple of months, we cut back to one. We don't always have weekly appointments because of Holidays and school activities but it doesn't seem to hurt if you miss occasionally. I think Dr. gets credit too. He really seems to understand my son. We would have stopped when the insurance ran out, but he was definitely making progress. We decided to cut back on his brother's therapy to pay for it. We will try this on his brother who has Autism next. He has more challenges and we expect that he will need a lot more therapy. If you have any more questions, please email directly. Thanks.See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.
Guest guest
Our insurance paid for about 25 sessions. We used Dr. in Weston. I saw his ad in the newspaper. I put his contact info. in another response. isn't a Medicaid provider. I don't know if you are going to find anyone who will do this for what Medicaid pays.See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Guest guest
In my opinion it is costly. I read about this in a book and decided that it sounded like it might help him with sleep problems and not being able to focus I posted Dr. 's contact info. in another response. I think he gets some of the credit too. There are doctors who will tell you that it doesn't work. All I can say is that my son has made a lot of progress during the past 11 months. We had tried several meds and he received SLP at school. He still receives services but the focus has changed dramatically. Last year we were working on just getting a response, now we are working on shifting topics appropriately. Here is an article about biofeedback. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NeurofeedbackSee what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.
