Guest guest Posted April 9, 2011 Report Share Posted April 9, 2011 My son has gotten the official diagnosis, and as I've learned more about Asperger's, I've become convinced that I also have it. I kinda suspect my husband does too, but he's learned how to make it work for him. I also suspect that my biological father is also Aspie, and I had no contact with him while I was growing up, so my issues are not because of any influence his behavior might have had. Guest guest Posted April 11, 2011 Report Share Posted April 11, 2011 Well I have three very quirky children. One was diagnosed with Asperger's a little over a year ago. He is now seven. I have an almost five year old girl who is diagnosed with Sensory Integration Dissorder, but I think she might have Asperger's too. It seems to be presenting itself differently than her brother, but she is definitely very quirky, has major sensory eating problems, tends to be very anti-social, and tantrums really bad. And then you have my youngest whom I think might have autism or pdd-nos. He so far is just diagnosed speech and developmental delayed. He's two and not talking but maybe three words and has sensory problems and repetitive behaviors. He is going for an autism full evaluation through Easter Seals next month so we will see then I guess. I definitely had sensory problems and was incredibly shy as a child and I remember feeling different when it came to making friends. And my husband definitely has some issues as well, major social anxiety and repetitive behaviors. Also, my father while fine sensory-wise is very socially unaware and even my mother has said she thinks he would have been diagnosed if he were a kid today. lol So yes, I think autism does run in families. I was adopted at birth but found my bio family and though most are normal there are a few that show the possibility of autism. Plus I have six children and two show signs, though they are grown, but I have one grandchild who was diagnosed autistic.
