Alcaine is correct per Drake & Drake. Also per D & D, it would be fluorescein.

Hi,

Can someone help with the correct spellings of Alcaine and flourecin?

Extraocular movements are intact. Pupils are equal, round, and reactive to

light and accommodation. The left eye was anesthetized with 2 drops of

" Alcaine " . The eye was explored both visually and with a sterile swab. No

foreign bodies are appreciated. There is no mass or cystic lesion

appreciated in the left upper eyelid. Mild edema is present. No corneal

abrasions are seen under " fluorescin " stain.

Thanks

Alcaine is correct and it's fluorescein, corneal trauma indicator 2% eye drops.

How about homonymous hemianopsia. For obvious reasons I made it a macro.

Just as an aside, make sure you hear the " sia " part.. there is also

homonymous hemianopia. (Just to confuse things). I think one hears

homonymous hemianopsia more often though. Hope this helps. By the way, my

reference is Stedman's Ophthalmology :)

I guess that explains why I've always heard it as hemianopsia. I guess

that's what they preferred. I was too tired/lazy to look it up tonight, as

I'm busting my hump trying to get my lines in so we can leave for a 3 day

camping weekend on Thursday as soon as I get off work.. I really need this

vacation.. sheesh.. Calgon take me away. No phones, no computers.. Sounds

heavenly :)

Thanks Margaret.. I'm pounding away at the keyboard, but beginning to get a

bit crosseyed. I have 2912 lines so far this week and " only " 3395 to go.

<sigh> I'll definitely be ready for the vacation if and when I make it.

Karla, I'm glad you aren't asking about any of the rest of the exam, because the

rest of it doesn't make much sense to me, but then I don't do eyes that much.

You are looking for homonymous hemianopsia. Margaret

I suppose it does seem redundant to say it the second time, but I guess he's

just clarifying. BTW, Ringers is capitalized. Hope this helps :)
