Guest guest
Regard to adult neurologists that Belkis sent me... I called Dr. Veena Subramanian's office. They said they accept medicaid She works with other doctors. My son saw one of the doctors, Dr. Seliger, who was helpful, but the other doctors in his office do not want to see a patient with autism, unless they have a seizure disorder. I do not know about Dr. Subramanian. I call Dr. Ballweg's office. They said she is only handles adult neurology not psychiatry. She does not accept Medicaid. Her fee is $250 for the first visit and $100 each additional visit. The previous information was given to Belkis from the Special Needs Coordinator of Memorial Hopsital West, Miramar and Pembroke, Karmel McCarthy. Again, give me feedback, if you used these doctors or any others that you recommend. EileenSee what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage. Sorry!! Date: 10/15/2007 4:53:21 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: EileenR414 There are no adult neurologists that know about autism. They will treat them if the have seizure disorders, but not for autism. My son is 36, and the same thing happened. Dr. Tuchman, was no longer able to treat him, and no one he could refer. He is still taking the same medication, but he is seeing a psychiatrist, that prescribes his meds. This is stupid!!!!! With all the agencies in our Community, no one has trained neurologists how to treat adults about autism. It is supposed to be a neurological disorder, which makes it a developmental disability. Why does it become a psychiatric disorder over 21? I know they can have both, but why aren't neurologists and psychiatrists trained about autism. Why aren't medical schools being trained? Why can't this be a project for CARD and Autism Speaks? You wouldn't believe the e-mails and calls I get asking for me to help with this situation. Then there is the problem of who will accept Medicaid. If you get any answers, please let me know, but I would strongly encourage CARD and Autism Speaks to advocate for the adults, especially the ones that are moderately to severe, the forgotten population!!!!
