Guest guest
HI Digna, for some reason my reason don't get to be posted. :(Its the second or third time its happening to me....would you mind posting it for me? Thanks Merav Levi, RD, MS, CDNhttp://www.linkedin.com/in/meravlevi Just to " twick " this converstaion even more:Why would anyone want to " equalize " kids/others members of society? Isn't it much more fun and interesting when we are able to express our individualliity in dieffernt ways: Cars, denim, hair dye? If you work - regardless of how much you earn - you should be the only one deciding how to spend it. For one it will be a laxury car every year, for another it is designer cloths and for another - to save every penny. No one should tell you what to do and how to spend your money, as long as you don't harm and make something illegal with it. At the same time - if you make a mistake - and you chose to sepnd your $$$ on a BMW and tomorrow you cannot pay your bills and you get kicked out of your apt bc you didn't pay the rent/mortgage - don't ask me to " bail " you out. I have no responsibility for your bad choices. When we " bail " out everybody, we send them a message that there is no responsibility or liability and that " society " will digg you out of the hole you dag for yourself. A smart peorson one said (Steph Vestheimer, if I recall correctly) said - " give them fishing rods, not fish! " Its better for them and better to all! When the Gov just gives and gives and take from the rich to give to the poor - we don't help the poor. We maintain their poor-status. We don't help them to get better. It makes us, possibly, feel better about ourselves, feeling humanitarian helping others (and don't get me wrong, other then paying my taxes, I also make my own donations), but we are not helping the poor. We sastain them and teach them that regardless of their contribution to the " collective " /society - they will be provided with. I can tell you this - I did one of my rotations during my intersnhip at a special program that delt with low or no income individuals (I will not get more specific as I don't want to point the grant/Gov sponsored program) - the ppl there were dressed better then me, with designer cloths that they got for FREE, thanks to my tax $$$, while if I had to buy these items I would need to pay top $$$. You better believe it.There is good a bad about any form of uniformity. Its good for the " collective " , for the general cause, it is not great for the individual. When you start controlling everything in the society - where do you draw the line? Today its uniform, tomorrow - hair dye. Eventually - we will all be repressed of our individuality. When you do that you end up harming society because it also represses individual thinking, therefore repressed development of society. After all - we got where we are today, as a western society - only thanks to great thinkers, innovators who asked " why? how " what? " and more, those who dared to go AGAINST the stream, because they were stubborn, non-conformists. That's why many of those thinkers, who believed in the freedom of individual thinking, creation and expression - if they grew up in the repressed East - many defected, like Mikhail Baryshnikov (to point one)
