,

My understanding is that they don’t

have a summer camp; however, you should call to confirm.

Neesa,

Do you know if the school has a summer

camp program? I'm looking to put my PDD son in a camp with NT kids as

well and if they have a camp program, this would be ideal. Thanks.

Subject: Broward:

Wonderful School

I am

writing to recommend a school that has been wonderful for my son who is on the

Autism spectrum. As parents of autism spectrum children, it is difficult

to find a school that can cope with the behavioral needs of our children, not

bad kid needs, just being different.

This

school is South Florida Academy of Learning (SFAL) in Coconut Creek. It

has an environment that boasts structure, academia and at the same time

nurtures and knows when to make allowances, unheard of in my own prior

experiences. The owner, Mrs. Maisano, is an educator and a godsend for my

son.

SFAL has

a nice warm campus feel and has small class sizes. It has typical

classes, but also ESE classes attached to it in the event of academic

needs. It also has an arrangement with a speech therapist who provides

speech therapy and social skills on site.

SFAL

allows parents to sit in on classes to observe how class is conducted.

The teachers routinely compliment students on what they are doing right.

When a student needs redirecting, she walks over to the student and quietly

redirects the student, unlike the public announcement so many times given in

other classroom settings.

This has

been my own personal find and as a parent, I wanted to share with other parents

who are searching for their own children.

Good

luck!!
