Doctor's attitudes

Hello Victor.

So nice to hear from a fellow New Englander.

Regarding Dr. Zimetbaum. He does full PVA's. Actually, Dr. Marc phson

does the procedure. I had mine done in July of this year. All four P Veins

and a flutter ablation as well. 7 Hrs. I was out through the whole thing. I

told Dr. Z that I didn't want to go through a prolonged drug therapy. He said

OK and I did a work up (MRI, TEE etc) and had the PVA. ( They do Focal Point

PVA's as well. Dr. Z told me that the other day)

Dr. phson was great. He's 's Boss. He started doing PVA's in Philly

years ago. He may be part of the group that spearheaded it in the States.

Dr. Zimetbaum is much more into drug therapy and research, but is your " Host "

at the Beth Israel A Fib Clinic. He's a great guy.

My email is oreillyrich@...

Keep in touch.

Hi Rich O.

I also use Dr. Zimetbaum. He is the most responsive of any doctors that I

know. If you send him an email he usually replies within 2 hours.

I do not think he performs PVA. The last time I saw him he was reluctant to

perform a focal (single or multiple) point ablation. He would do an ablation

for Flutter.

If this has changed please let me know.

Thanks

Victor W.

This brings to my mind one of my last trips (and there were many) to the ER in

the year 2000. The ER physician, who I saw on many occasions during that year,

looked at me and said, " There are millions of people in this world walking

around with Afib and dealing with it - now go home and *deal with it*.

He was also one of the doctors who overlooked two compression fractures of the

back. He told me my backache was all in my mind and part of the Panic Attacks

that he had diagnosed!

Oh well, there always has to be med students that graduate at the bottom of the

class........I'm sure he was one of them!

Hi Barbara,

I'm new to afib and to this board, and your mention of " cycles "

intrigues me. I'm not sure what you are referring to exactly and

would love to hear more form you. I am in persistent/chronic afib---

my 8th month---and although I am in afin every hour of every day, i

feel there are cycles to my symptoms! is this what you are talking

about? there are days I can hardly move from my chair! but then there

are days or portions of days that I " almost " feel normal---but I sure

can't find any cause & effect for how I feel. I do keep a diary to

see if there's a pattern. would love to hear more about ti. thanks.

Hello Ellen: That doctor's diagnoses and reactions were

outrageous!....

Here is one for the record: I told my card....that the

cardioversions he had done, made a bad speller out of me and his

This is why it took me so long to get OK'd for an ablation, which has

Dear Rich,

What is Dr. Zimetbaum's full name? He's not listed in NASPE? Is he

an electrophysiologist?

I will be going to the Boston A-Fib Symposium Jan 17-18. Do you have

any insider tips about Boston?

Do you or anyone have any questions you want asked?

My AFIB is controlled by Flecinide. NSR since April 2002.

I am interested in PVA etc. in order to keep track of the technology. If &

when I need an ablation I want to know my options.

Hi folks, Maybe we should collect quotes about doctor's reponses to

questions.

My husband tried a new doctor with a reputation for being interested

in cycles. His response, upon looking at his graphs, was " Oh my, another

hypochondriac. " Although it shows very clear cycles, he announced it

looked random, and recommended (on first visit) ablation and raising

amiodarone. Sigh. That quote goes with another from previous doctor;

" Cycles? He's not a woman, is he? . " Just wanted to fuss about this.

One " main " one, plus a top-up after 3-months to re-do 2 veins and the

Dear Victor,

The Boston A-Fib Symposium is being held at the Seaport Hotel and

Conference Center, World Trade Center, Boston January 17-18, 2003. It

seems very well put together with all the world's big guns in A-Fib. The

person listed in the brochure is Kathy Kneebone, The Pyle Center, 702

Langdon St., Madison, WI 53706 tel . (Yes, that is a

Wisconsin address and phone number. I think the Un. of Wisconsin is

co-sponsoring the Symposium.) I talked to Muriel Corcoran

in Boston.

If you're going, want to try to meet there?

Hi Barbara,

thanks for your response, and what you suggest sounds like a great

idea! As early as my 1st cardiologist visit, I mentioned my symptoms

to my Dr. and she seemed to act like she couldn't figure why I felt

so bad??? Like she never had another patient that felt so bad! I was

ready to go to another doctor, but decided to hold off for awhile---I

think that she she finally " got it " that I do feel this bad, and

that's why my treatment has been geared towards getting OUT of afib,

rather than just rate control--- thanks again----doctors don't seem

to know as to why i feel really bad on some days and not too bad on

others. I sure wish they WOULD do a study!
