Guest guest
Gail, Good for you on the walks! I actually worked at Curves for about a month in Jan/Feb. The workouts are ok. Just don't buy into all their speel. Just go and do your own thing. It is all very scripted and I elaborated, trying to tell people a bit more, like how it's different for everybody and they didn't like that so let me go. I also disagreed with their promotion of the protein diet. I feel it is very imbalanced. Also I didn't like how they tell EVERYONE no matter much weight they need to lose or don't that " without changing your eating, just doing their workouts 3 times a week, the average loss is 2 lbs a week. " Total bunk as anybody trying to lose knows darn well. Anyway, like I said, just don't buy into there little speech. Do what you want, what works for you. Oh also they actually discourage people from going around more times or going more than 3 days a week! For people like me, with arthritis, I can't push hard enough on those machines to even break a sweat. Also any trainer will tell you the longer you exercise the better. It keeps your metabolism up for longer. To get a full workout in just 30 min is just not true. Not there anyway. It is a good addition to other exercise but not by itself. About treadmills, this is something I researched very thoroughly before getting mine. Let's just say you get what you pay for. I'm not sure Walmart is where you want to go. If you can afford to, I really recommend going to an exercise equipment place. I had one from Sears, supposedly one of their high end ones and it was crap. You want atleast 1.5 horse power, maintenance free, continuous track belt and be sure to check the max weight. I started at 284 so needed one that could handle my weight. Most of them max out at 250 I think. Mine goes to 300. Mine was $1799, on sale. On line it was $2500. Expensive yes but well worth it. Oh and also you want to make sure the deck is good, that it has good cush. Not to bash Walmart, they are great for clothes and stuff but I know people who had their treadmills and they crapped out in a year or two. Mine is warrantied for 10 years. I use my very heavily so needed one that would last. I have this fear of it dying when I'm just like 10 pounds from my goal! Just really check them out. Guest guest
Gail, That was another thing..... when I wanted to go around more they actually discouraged me! That bugged me. Like I said I have severe arthritis and can not push that hard on the machines so have to go longer. But, they are not bad like I said to just get another form of activity, as a supplement to other exercise. For somebody just starting out they are great workouts. Gives then some incentive and motivation. When you are paying some people are more likely to do it. So if it will get your sister going then it is worth it. Just don't buy into their bunk like I said. I actually know that several of the ladies do go around more times, they just don't tell the staff, he he! Guest guest
, Quite alright. That's what this is all about. Sharing info with each other. If you are used to doing other more assertive, aggressive exercise, the Curves one probably wouldn't do it for you. I get a much better workout on the treadmill. But I do think they can be good for somebody who is new to exercise. Gena

I think Curves sounds interesting but I was wondering if anyone can describe what it's like. Also, I know they have a weight management program...I'm scared that they will have an eating program that I'll have to do. I really just want to up my exercise while continuing on my intuitive eating journey. I just want some structured exercise so I can start getting stronger and feeling better about myself! > > , I don't go myself, but I have a few friends who do and they really seem to enjoy it. They say the group dynamic and frequent changes of exercise as you go through the circuit of aerobics and weights stations make it fun and keep away the boredom that can develop when you're slogging through a gym routine on your own - and it's pretty quick. Remember, you don't have to be involved in any eating program if you don't want to!! Just politely tell them you're interested in the exercise/fitness aspect only - you don't " have to do " anything (and if they're smart they wouldn't push that on customers - it would only be more likely to scare them off). I like that it seems to be for women of all ages and sizes. My physiotherapist (a generously curvy lady of about 50) goes, and she recommends it. I suggest finding a local Curves and seeing if they will give you a tour or introductory trial session before you agree to sign up for anything. Good luck! sigigee
