I often listen to the circus, finding the clowns very entertaining. Sadly, as entertaining as this circus is, Art Bell and his growing legions are proof of the fading light of true science in western culture. Ironically, Science, which gave birth to the technology that powers the " mis " -information society, is being buried under an onslaught of pseudo science. Pseudo science, as represented in the medical model of addiction, is more than a simple annoyance to free and critical thinkers. The 12 steps to ignorance, by shrouding themselves in medical science, attempt to hide their anti intellectual and superstitious nature. They don't have to hide very well, we live in a society already entrenched in intellect hating mystical belief systems. After all, Adam and Eve were forbidden fruit only from the Tree of Knowledge. There is a reason for the step zombie clichés such as; " Your best thinking got you here " , " stinking thinking " , and " Some people are too smart to recover " . Critical thinking is difficult while your brain is soaked in alcohol and drugs. AA/NA aims to take advantage of this venerability By indoctrinating it's converts hard and fast, " Ninety meetings in ninety days " , " take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth " , " Work the program or die " It is not unexpected that a mystical cult like AA/NA can find fertile ground in a culture were Art Bell's insults to intelligence thrive. But hey, it's still fun to listen to sometimes, if only to know the enemy a little better. for Jerry and the rest of use critical thinkers out here I'll pass on this interesting link, http://www.skeptic.com/index.html -- " You morons, it's obvious why you can't figure out how many angles are on the head of that pin, all the angles are in heaven " . Guest guest
Apple: This man started his rant with an example of how he is a diseased addicted person and has his disease shows itself in other areas of his life that are outside substance abuse. He talked about a home project and how the frustration experienced from that project has a direct link to his disease of which he is powerless to control. He is an addiction therapist at the local VA, 46 years old (looks like he's 56), has emphysema, continues to chain smoke, and does not hesitate to comment on how important it is to come to meetings. Help that includes professional mental health care is discouraged by this man as he claims addicts can only help and understand another addict. It is obvious to me that he has severe uderlying psychiatry that restricts him from thinking in rational logical and terms and until he addresses those issues, he is going to remain a miserable person. Needs some (REBT) The tragedy here is the observation that the younger and more desperate youth see him as a guru of sort. I believe that many people, especially youth, learn best from visual examples. What message is this man giving when he states his perceived powerlessness over a controlable behavior then walks outside coffing from his lung disease and lits up! Never does he give the very powerful message that smoking is bad for you, look at what it done for me! Sometimes I wonder what is most important at these meetings. Surely its not a health issue. wanna-be NA guru > Hi : > So what was the guru's comment? Guest guest
Jerry: Your message has a familiar style of reasoning. I think they call it circular reasoning or something. Very common at the meetings that attend. As you know, faulty logic is the basis for most cult like dogma that is found in steppism. Let us throw the shrouds off this beast and expose him!!
