I agree we need to take some initiative, but I'm inclined to think of a lot of

people

that didn't get some of the breaks I've gotten. I think when people (that can

afford to

provide for themselves) speak up about these issues, they are getting off their

butts

because they know that there are people who cannot. They are not waiting--they

are

saying " something's not right with this picture " and they are doing something

about it

and the fact that some people are questioning what and how they are doing it

only

testifies to how deeply ingrained the individualized perspective is.

In no way do I believe we should " piss on everybody

else, " but some people will have more than others.

Not everything is a God-given right. Talking on the

phone while staying at a hotel is not a God-given,

Constitutionally-protected right.

Sure, we need to speak out on many issues, first and

foremost, finding a cure for NF2. Also, working to

improve Relay service and technology, captioning in

movie theaters, etc. But lobbying and filing lawsuits

are two different things. Let ourselves be heard,

but, again, at some point we have to handle it on our

own. It is not society's responsibility to accomodate

my every whim.

Sure bang the drum for the good old US but, I think there are millions of

children dying in 3rd world countries from things like POLIO, AIDS , Land

Mines, Dysentry, I think they are a hole lot more important than you guys

being able to walk into a rest room and use a TTY !!

Take a wider look around ! You guys are a VERY small part of the world !

OK I concede you are right to a point here. We do have wheel chair

access to all public buildings here. And we do have a couple of TTY phones

in the city.

Trouble down here is a public TTY phone is a magnet for vandals so they have

to be located in secure places.

I don't use TTY at all, I send Fax or E-mail, or with friends I use my

mobile phone and they reply and it comes to me as TEXT.

Its a normal digital service thing here.

So the way I see it being totally deaf isn't a handicap, maybe a pain in the

ASS.

One thing you guys won't believe is that in OZ is three years ahead of US in

the mobile phone world. This is true and certified by INTEL.Our government

pushes all digital technology here . Its all we have, even TV will be

entirely digital by 2005
