Mark,

You have a great idea! There are so many on the Crew who are very productive

people, for example, authors, students, active volunteers, independent

business owners, builder, active in church. This is a great story of making

the best of a little or looking out the glass half full instead of half

empty. Hopefully, the strength of character, courage, the true meaning of

life would also play into the script. This is the best way to get $ is to

get positive attention. Isn't it? Hope you are having a good summer. Vicki

and others,

Have you seen Oprah's show about making " miracles " by doing things for

others---ie, crocheting (because that is all one person could do well)

blankets for children in hospitals, something like 100,000 plus of them over

the last several years, which made her life seem full? Also, the part of her

show called " remembering your Spirit " brings to mind all of you. When I see

these I think of my NF2 crew friends and how we could definitely be a part of

these. The Crew figures in to so much here. Vicki

I think there are plenty of people on the Crew who are making the best out of a

little

that are leading productive lives by standards they/we have invented and not

necessarily

by standards that society in general has set for " productivity. " I would insist

that

those alternative standards are where the meaning is coming through and if a

show

focused on conventional standards of " productivity, " then it would be a major

insult to

all of us living with NF2. I would have felt majorly alienated by my sisters

and

brothers with NF2 if I had seen a show that only focused on people who had done

this or

done that " despite NF2 " a few years ago when I was in such poor shape

physically--it

sends the message that " hey, they did it--why haven't you? what's wrong with

you? "

And at that time I just wanted to know that I was fulfilling a purpose just

being alive

and sharing experiences with other people... and then the time came to share

whatever

was planted in those times with more and more people, so I am grateful I had

that time

(even though it wasn't easy and even though I have struggled with guilt that I

got

another go around at the life of being out and about in the world when many

other people

haven't).

I agree strength, courage, and meaning of life would definitely play into the

script if

the focus was on NF2, but I am not so sure anymore that those are even remotely

related

to measures of success that rate individuals as " productive " .

Hugs and smiles,

Well said! Living a productive life for me is sometimes just getting out

of bed in the morning and I know that I am not as bad off as most. I have

developed ways of coping and doing things for myself that some people think

I am NUTS!!!!! We are all so very different in the way that this disease

has affected our lives.

It would be totally unfair to compare one of us against the other!!!!! We

all do what we have to do to make it from day to day. Some of us have a

far greater struggle!!!! My hat goes off to Sheryn , Jimmy and

just to name a few!!!!!! I am sure there are many others on the crew but

these are a few that I have gotten to know well!!!!

Take care!

Marnie
