Guest guest
Hi Rose, did you ever get any replies to this question? I'm in the same position, just planning to try 5HTP and GSE together, plus Houston enzymes. Are there any problems anyone can see with this combination? Grateful for advice, thanks. > Hi, I want to put my 17 year old autistic son back on 5-HTP and maybe > also inositol for his fearfulness. Guest guest
, I did get an answer from another group, that of Andy Cutler, he said there are no interactions that he knows of. I take it that it does not mean there are no interactions between them, just that he does not know about them. Now, Dr. Ray Sahelian who writes on 5-HTP all the time said we must be cautious of 5-HTP because it has not been used for that many years. He said there are lot of unknowns and to use 5-HTP with caution. My gut feeling is to not use 5-HTP with GSE, since GSE could increase the effectiveness of 5-HTP and maybe change some other factor. I don't know. I started using 5-HTP again, and stopped the GSE. After this chelation round I have my son on, I may stop the 5-HTP and put him back on the GSE for yeast. 5- HTP does not need to be given every day. It can be used intermittently. Another thing I have in mind is that maybe the 5-HTP could be given at a different time of the day than the GSE. Maybe someone else has the answer to this. Guest guest
, I am retyping this message as the one I wrote yesterday seems to have gotten completely eaten up. Yes, one person answered me on the autism treatment group. Andy Cutler said he knew of no interferences or problems between using GSE and 5-HTP. However, in my opinion that does not mean there are no interferences or problems when using both of them together. It is my gut feeling these 2 should not be used together at the same time. Dr. Sahelian, who writes a lot on 5-HTP encourages people to be cautious about the use of it. He says it is relatively new and we don't know that much about it. Also, Grapefruit has a history of changing the potency of a medication. So, I am playing it safe; and I dropped the GSE while I restarted my son on the 5-HTP. I plan to resume and use the GSE for a few days after completing this round of chelation on my son. ( I have been doing the 6-day every 3 hour rounds with him lately.) 5-HTP doesn't have to be taken everyday. Dr. Sahelian believes people can get sensitized to it if too much of it is taken or it is taken every single day. Andy Cutler also said that 5-HTP is NOT an SSRI. I hope something here helps. Guest guest
My husband (and I) take a product that has GSE and 5-htp in the same capsule. The medical and scientific board behind the company is awesome. Dr Hackman, research professor at U. of California at and Scheckenbach - doctoral program in microbiology/biochemistery at Oregon State University. I trust the safety of the product. I take this because it helps with mood and the munchies. My husband got off of his antidepressant (Wellbutrin was the first he tried, then Celexa). He doing so much better with the GSE and 5-htp. He takes it 3 times a day. I take it once a day and also take 20 mg of elavil. Elavil has been great for me. Guest guest
Mollie, this sounds interesting. Is this a prescription drug? If not, where can one purchase this? Also, is there a website for this product? Thank you. Sorry for so many questions. I am a very curious person. Guest guest
Hi Mollie, I'm really interested in this combined product too. Will you post the brand name, where it can be bought etc. please? I'm in the UK, so will have to find out if it is available here, or through mail order. Thanks in advance Oh, one other question - is GSE only available in liquid form normally? My kids both " smell a rat " a MILE off if I try to put any kind of drops into their drinks, they really are seriously hypersensitive to smells, tastes etc. and I cant get away with anything though other people assure me I will be able to. I've been looking for a good GSE product in the UK, in tablet or capsule form. Anyone know where I should go? Thanks again. > > , I am retyping this message as the one I wrote yesterday > seems to have gotten completely eaten up. Yes, one person answered > me on the autism treatment group. Hi Rose, >From what I read, I don't think GSE could increase the effectiveness of 5-HTP. GSE can increase the effectiveness of some prescription drugs, by inhibiting one of the body's intestinal enzyme systems that would otherwise breakdown drug molecules before they reach the blood stream. But I don't think it's the case here. Of course, I can be wrong. Or maybe GSE interacts with 5-HTP in some other way... Sorry I can't help more.
