Even " I " cringe at the thought. . . but think of all the sweet/sour sauces,

fruit sauces, honey/mustard glazes, cherry sauces, sugar in teriyaki

sauce, sugar in spaghetti sauces, etc that we use all the time. Remind them of

that. . . (And, as I recall, Digna uses a lot of " sweet " sauces in her

LTC settings for just that reason.)

Subject: Re: Supplements

Oh, okay.

One technique I learned years ago to reduce reliance on Ensure or such

things. (I've shared this before.)

I had a resident, pretty senile, that would eat anything served if it was

sweet. Dessert, liquid supplements, fruit, juice, etc. - but routinely

left

most of her meat, potatoes, veggies, bread, etc.

Well, had a brainstorm one day. Before setting the plate in front of her,

we sprinkled just a bit of sugar on her foods. She finished everything. It

wasn't but a few days that we stopped needing to send supplements and she

stopped just tasting the food on her plate, but seemed to enjoy every bite.

We learned it worked just fine with a number of residents that had a

tendency towards liking foods sweeter.

Sounds gross to me, but then, many foods people eat every day sound gross

to me. ;-)
