Guest guest
I am terribly sorry that that was your experience at the Victory School. I have been where you are several times during my 4 years employed at the school. There was a time that I would have gladly gone on and on about my experiences and would have made negative commentary but I don't have that kind of time or energy anymore. What I will say is this: Sometimes there is a great disconnect between the "top" and the "bottom". Sometimes people aren't quite sure what they have until they lose it and there have been some AMAZING teachers lost because the "top" has been so out of touch. They had it...right under their noses and they failed to see it. Or maybe they knew what they had, but it was getting too expensive to keep. Or maybe it was politics. Who knows. After all this time it still remains a mystery to me. Anyway, I know for a fact that there are some good teachers there right now. Some with Masters degrees and some with BCABA's (the school was concious enough to pay for the certifications of some teachers...check the BCBA website to see exactly who is certified). Oh wait...nevermind...the CABA's all left this year. I will also say that you are certainly not the first parents to have these sort of complaints. There have been letters similar to yours sent by parents and even an anonymous one with complaints about the mis-management and unproffessional nature of certain administrative staff members. Not to metion the word of mouth...I won't mention it. During my the 2003-2004 school year a common phrase around there was "sinking ship" Hopefully they will get on track. My suggestion is that they get a business consultant to help with the management aspect (THIS IS SO IMPORTANT FOR THE SUCCESS OF ANY BUSINESS). They will also need help with morale and more intense training on how to do VB and ABA. Also, those who make the decisions for the teachers need to be more involved with the teachers to learn what their needs and wants are. They deserve soooooo much respect for what they do and they should be able to speak up for themselves without inhibitions. I'm so happy that your daughter is doing so well. The funny thing about Autism, in my experience, is that there is no "formula" for success. Some kids do well in schools like the Victory School and some kids do well in other settings. I'm glad you have found a place for your daughter. I'm happy to say that I am also doing well at home with my baby and working with some lovely families and their beautiful children. By the way, have you received a response from teh school? The last time this happened, they chose to ignore the letters. They said that they "didn't warrant a response".
