Guest guest
Hi Andy and all, An extremely ill friend asked their new physician about supplementing with B12, for neural detoxification and support, as well as for extreme nerve pain. The pt doesn't like the idea of needles and so asked about high dosage sublingual methylcobalamin. The physician replied that he did not advise ANY B vitamin supplementation when mercury amalgams are still in place. No further explanation. Andy, could you please speak to this issue? I have never heard of B12 (or other B vitamins) contraindicated with amalgams in place, in fact I know many people GREATLY helped by high- dosage B12 injections. The physician's position not only puzzles me (is he thinking of Hg methylation?), but concerns me. Not only may this patient in extreme pain and nervous system damage miss out on potential improvement, but what about those of us who have had our amalgams removed, and probably consequently have lots of recirculating/redeposited Hg in our bodies? Are the Cheney level hydroxycobalamin injections I am taking harmful to me for this reason? Thanks in advance for any light on this problem, Jo

There is a superstition around that is based on more fact than most in this area (but is still wildly incorrect) that B vitamins somehow cause methylation of mercury, concentrating it into the brain. The relevant chemistry can be made to happen in a test tube, but does not proceed at a significant rate under physiologically relevant conditions. BTW, reasonably large amounts of oral B-12 work as well as injections. It is pretty freaky to learn to stick yourself and a lot of people can't do it. Roughly 100 mg of B-12 down the hatch = 1 shot. Sometimes there is an enormous amount of study behind their reccomendations. Most of the time there is n
