Judy always gets extra cheese on our pizza. I would be happy with mine with hardly any at all but I still eat it with tthe extra cheese.

Shirley what will your Christmas be like since you and Steve are seperated? Do you have brothers and sisters?

Bill

8 am appt for food stamps

I go in tomorrow at 8am for an appt for food stamps or whatever they can help with. I'm getting ready to call my township trustee to get an appt with them so I can get help with electric. I got paid yesterday and am officially out of $.

I absolutely HATE this.

In this part the federal food give-aways are only a few times a year and aren't always cans of pork and blocks of cheese. It's often a combination of different foods and the amount you get depends on the number in your household. You have to show proof that you are low income to receive it too. If someone who works for the welfare dept here took any of the food (cheese or otherwise) they could be arrested for fraud because they workers are paid way too much to be anywhere the poverty level. A friend of mine is a case worker there and she makes over $25 per hour.

Bill, I don't think they do give out cheese anymore. I wasn't told about it. I'd take free cheese....yum!

Many people who work for the welfare department here in Arizona make minimum wage or close to it. Most of the clerks qualify for food stamps here. Are you saying the eligibility workers at the welfare department make $25 a hour? That is very high indeed. Or are you talking about caseworkers for the social services such as CPS? And the cheese or other commodity government surplus program is administered monthly by the food banks or Salvation Army here in Arizona. So it appears that things are different from state to state. Sharon I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. -----

When I worked for dept. of social services as a file clerk, no one started at min. wage and they still don't. Starting wage now for file clerks is around $15, case workers (here, case workers are also eligibility/in take workers) and CPS workers make much more starting at around $20. Salvation Army is one of the places that holds the surplus food distribution and you have to show 2 pieces of ID and proof of income. Only way someone who works for social services here would qualify is if theirs was the only family income and they had about a dozen kids. Since the surplus food program is a federal program, it doesn't make sense to me that eligibility would be different from state to state

In California workers also start at min. wage. In fact, my neighbor is a case worker, has 2 kids, and her DH also works, and she is STILL eligible for some benefits. Trista

it's amazes me that the same position for the same type of work would have such a difference in pay when they all work for the same government office ! Wonder why there is such a big difference ?

That's interesting. When I worked for Child Protective Services for The State of Arizona the family assistance office (welfare/food stamps) was next door to our office. Most of the clerks in FA made low enough wages to qualify for, and receive, health care and food stamps. (Arizona doesn't participate in Medicaid but, instead, has their own program approved by the Federal Government). I don't know of any government clerk in Arizona who has ever made $15 an hour but then our cost of living is much lower than in MI or many other states. Did you really mean that the Welfare eligibility workers made the same as CPS workers? That does seem odd to me. Here CPS 'case workers' must have at least a BA in social work and that is not true, of course, for welfare eligibility

workers.Sharon I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. WIC is a federal program so it should be in all states. I think the kids have to be under 5 to qualify. It's a great help! Sharon I was trying to daydream, but my mind kept wandering. Re: Bill Re: 8 am appt for food stamps

That is pretty much everywhere. We don't qualify

anymore, my son is too old, but it sure helped with

formula and all other baby food things I SO needed!
