Guest guest
Jan, I am so sorry to hear you are 40ish, staring at 50. You know me, I am 25 (again). And I sure would like to get rid of a heck of a lot more than just 20 pounds. If I got rid of that 75 pounds I would be back down to my pre-baby weight, which was actually getting down to the anorexic side, so I haven't ever gone that far again. But I sure would like to take off about 50 pounds (along with those 25 years I keep getting rid of by saying my age is 25 again). Guest guest
Jan, Sorry, guess I should have been clearer. Back in the 80s, when 30 something was a TV show, I got one of their sweatshirts which said 30-Something on it. I took it to work and whenever anyone had a birthday, I told them to wear the sweatshirt, showing off their age. My boss said she couldn't do that as she was actually 40-something. I then told her that she was actually still 30-something, even if it was 30+something over ten. She just laughed and then agreed to wear the shirt. So, you can start being 25 anytime you want to. Just starting telling people you are 25 when they ask your age. I always say that it is pretty obvious that I am not 25, so when people ask my age and I say I am 25, they should figure out that I don't want to tell them how old I am. I actually do look very young for my age, but I sure don't look that young. Margaret >>> 05/31/01 10:35PM >>> Geez Margaret, why didn't you tell me this before?? Guest guest
Is it too late to get in on the age and weight conversation? If not, here's my contribution: The Big 3-0 was the most traumatic birthday I ever had, and I swore that I'd never go through an age that ended in -ty again. I remained in my 30s until my daughter, then 16, said, " Mom, I could deal with thirty-eleven through thirty-nineteen. But thirty-twenty is ridiculous! " So, reluctantly, I moved into my 40s. Since I'm now creeping up on forty-twenty (or thirty-thirty), I have had to re-evaluate the ages ending in -ty, and maybe this year I'll start with a new -0. Or maybe not. One of the advantages of advanced age is that you quit caring about small things like age and start worrying about important things, like which restaurant " the girls " should pick for their weekly lunch next week or how to spend a peaceful week vacationing in the mountains with 3 other women who can't even agree on where to eat lunch. You even quit worrying how stupid it sounds to say you are lunching with " the girls, " the youngest of whom is in her forty-teens and the oldest of whom is sick of being told how spry she is for her age. As far as weight: Several of my doctors (the ones who are in charge of my body) would be pleased if I dropped 75 pounds, although they would probably not authorize an 11-week period for the transition. Heck, so would I, except that I now have a lot of money invested in a size 1X wardrobe, and if I went back to a size 8 (which I was back when I was originally 3-0), I would either have to go naked or invest a large sum of money in clothing myself from the skin out. Nudism might have been an option when I was 3-0 and size 8, but it would take serious cosmetic surgery before I'd take it up at this stage, size 8 or no size 8. My personal goal is to stay physically fit, not culturally approved. And as long as my husband (who is 7.8 years younger than I am and admits to every day of his age) occasionally turns to me out of the blue and says, " You know, you're still really pretty, " I'm not going to worry too much about what the rest of the world thinks. Guest guest
Interesting subject line we've chosen for this topic, isn't it? <grin> I just wanted to jump in and say I am a " fluffy " girl. Okay, heavy. LOL. I'd have to lose about 125 to be my " ideal " weight. While I wouldn't complain if I woke up slim one day, I have to say that I agree with Valeria that it's just not that important to me to be socially acceptable in terms of my weight. Maybe it IS age that brings a different perspective to this. I have a S.O. who thinks I'm gorgeous and I don't really need any more than that. I just had a physical, complete with chest x-ray, CT scan, and a billion blood tests and the verdict is I am healthy. My cholesterol isn't even high...I was so tickled about that. Like I said to the doc, " Gosh, I'm doing pretty good for a 46-year-old, overweight smoker, huh? " I'm certainly not bragging as I know I could keel over 5 minutes from now. I just wanted to make the point that being slim isn't the be-all end-all of everything. There ARE those of us out here who are heavy, beautiful, happy, and loved. But don't worry. If you are slim I won't hold it against you. He-haw!! Luv ya, Rennie ----- Original Message ----- > As far as weight: Several of my doctors (the ones who are in charge of my > body) would be pleased if I dropped 75 pounds, although they would probably > not authorize an 11-week period for the transition.
