Guest guest
D, My doc has to order the vitamins specifically. And seems like the techs have to take a large vile of blood for each vitamin, so I wouldn't order them all at the same time. Last time we ordered vit A, E, B6, B12, along with the other elements I mentioned. They took tons of blood (was I feeling guilty when they were drawing the blood? Yes!). I wanted selenium because I had read some kids on the diet are low, and some centers give this as a suppement ---and then when I looked up the risks of being deficent (heart problems), I wanted it ran. We found was low, so now I'm adding brazil nuts to his diet. Bottom line, I want to head off any problems before they start (just like you do). I hate to say it, but this is a LIVE and LEARN diet & because we don't have a team, I try to follow any loose string. Paranoid? Well, yes, a little, but my paranoia (sp?) pays off some time. And, I didn't ask for the Vit A analysis ( was low), my doc did. So I'm glad he has insight too. Bottom line D, take the things you read on the list seriously - encourage your doc without seeming demanding. (Off the record hint) when you are asking your doc about something you've read here, phrase it like " I've read some kids on the diet are getting osteoporosis " instead of " The kids on my email list....... " Docs will discount it if it is " internet theology. " We all know that there is a wealth of information here, but put yourself in the Doc's place. I could see myself rolling my eyes. But thank the GOOD LORD that this list is here!!! Guest guest
De and Kathy... My naturo path has access to labs that can run the vit/mineral profiles from less blood...the use one sample for the vits and one for the minerals. My doc was more than willing to order all the test, but he can only order them individually and there is no prayer that we would get enough blood from Sev for that! I will have to pay for it myself, but it's worth it at this point to see what's going on. Nan
Guest guest
Nan -- Assuming this is Dr. Gruska? Have you done the testing already? She didn't mention anything about this to me (and I forgot to ask). I'd like to do the vitamin/mineral profile and a fatty acid analysis.--D --- prausa@... wrote: > De and Kathy... > > My naturo path has access to labs that can run the > vit/mineral > profiles from less blood...the use one sample for > the vits and one for > the minerals. Guest guest
De... Yes, it's doc G...she had mentioned this to me when I had my visit, but I wanted to do as much as I could through Dr. F (ped) so insurance would cover it. You can just call and tell her you were talking to me (I mentioned we were internet pals) and that you'd be interested in the vit/mineral profile. I think it was less that $150 maybe???? The hair analysis was around $50 and I think the fatty acid analysis wa about $150-200???? I'm really interested in seeing this through, so I'm just going to do it! Guest guest
Actually talked to her about an hour ago. She recommended the same thing -- that I talk to our family practitioner to see if she could prescribe and help me with insurance. I think she probably will. I'm really interested, too!--D --- prausa@... wrote: > De... > > Yes, it's doc G...she had mentioned this to me when > I had my visit, > but I wanted to do as much as I could through Dr. F > (ped) so insurance > would cover it. Guest guest
Kathy, Wow! what a wonderful Paed ! You are so lucky to have him. Hope you are seeing results with the decrease in cals etc. Saro....Rohan's mum myketokid@... wrote: D, Unlike some docs, he is very respectful of what the mothers on our list have "uncovered." He has never once discounted what I've learned from this list (trust me, I'm super thankful!).
