Guest guest
Welcome! I think you will like the freedom of SBD. Try adding more veggies - about 5 servings a day. Also have a couple of protein based snacks, morning and afternoon. Looks like you're off to a good start! Hi I am New!! Hi everyone my name is Debbi and I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. This is my first week on the South Beach Diet although I did go the previous week with no potatoes and only a little Chinese Fried rice last Friday only. Today was my first day with no bread but I think I did pretty good. I made the vegetable cups to go and they are tasty. This morning I had two of those, some cottage cheese with cinnamon and Splenda and one soft boiled egg and one piece of bacon and I was FULL! I went to exercise class at noon and came back and had a salad with tuna, a couple of cheese sticks and some almonds at supper tonight I had a big pork chop and more salad and some sugar free jello for dessert - I am really looking for feedback to see if I am doing things right as I only need to lose 15 lbs or so and feel this diet is the best I have read about anywhere - also can anyone tell me any fast food choices I can make as I have a toddler and sometimes we go to 's or places like that - every Friday we usually have pizza but I guess I can't have that for a while. Any feedback is very welcome!CheersDebbiReminder: The South Beach Diet is not low-carb. Nor is it low-fat. The South Beach Diet teaches you to rely on the right carbs and the right fats-the good ones-and enables you to live quite happily without the bad carbs and bad fats. Hi Debbi, Welcome to the group. It sounds like you are doing fine so far, except for the fried rice. For the first two weeks in Phase 1 we are to have absolutely no rice, potatoes, bread, pasta or fruit. We get to start adding them in when we reach Phase 2 a bit later. > also can anyone tell me any fast food choices I can make as I have a toddler > and sometimes we go to 's or places like that Your fast food choices are really limited. Burger King has a low-carb menu, but it's the Whopper and a couple of variations without the bun and costing about twice as much as a regular Whopper. You get a plastic knife and fork, too. You're better off ordering the regular sandwiches and tossing the bun. It's still not a great choice because of all the fat inherent in the food itself. Stay away from the french fries. Mc's has salads. I haven't been to 's in a long time so I can't say anything about their menu. >every Friday we usually have pizza but I guess I can't have that for a while. Since mushrooms are allowed in all Phases, I've used portobello mushrooms as a " crust " for individual pizzas. I saute'ed the caps in a little olive oil until the juice started coming out, then topped them with leftover SBD friendly spaghetti sauce and slices of mozzarella cheese. I put these in a rimmed baking sheet and put them under the broiler until the cheese melted. YUM! It's definitely a knife and fork pizza, but it went over well at our house. -- Ann You spend your life fighting dirt, and when you die they bury you in it. hayakawa@... Guest guest
Hi Debbi There are a few Canadians on the list so feel free to check in with us if you need to translate some of the stuff in the book i.e. when they say Canadian bacon they mean something like thinly sliced ham, not peameal bacon. BTW - if you get thinly sliced peameal and cut off the fat it works out the same ;-). You're in a great place for fish and its ALL allowed on SBD. Ditto fiddleheads. I'm jealous. - Ontario > Hi everyone my name is Debbi and I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. Guest guest
Ohhhhh how I love fiddleheads!!! I can eat those by the truckload! BTW I have lost about 25 lbs on Weight Watchers but I really needed something to lose the last 10 - I really want to lose 15 - people think I don't need to but its a personal goal of mine. Two people where I worked have had tremendous success on this diet so I wanted to give it a try - this is my second day without bread - yesterday was a bit hard but so far so good today. Thanks for the welcome and everyone! Blessings, Debbi
