Guest guest
Hi Lia. I'm so glad your checkup went well!!!! I'm sorry the baby is footling breech. Sounds like there's no chance the he'll turn around? I must have missed your earlier posts - but what is it that upsets you about the c-section? I guess I've just assumed I'll have a c- section and am ok with it. Is it just that everyone feels differently about this? Or, is there some reason for concern? I'm just curious - and certainly don't mean to upset you! I hope everything works out for you! Who knows? Maybe he'll turn around at the very last minute! Guest guest
<<<Hi everyone, I had my weekly checkup and my (almost weekly LOL) US yesterday and today, so I thought I'd post a quick update. The news is mixed. The baby is looking fine, he is now at 6 lbs. 3 oz., and my amniotic fluid levels have been upgraded to " average " , from low-normal before, so that's the good news. The bad news is that the baby is still breech, and not only breech but FOOTLING BREECH, which means that he's " sitting " cross-legged, with the feet down, which means that during birth, he would most likely present feet-first, not butt-first. This effectively eliminates any hope I had for a trial of labour and I guess I now know I am guaranteed a c-section. It has been tentatively scheduled for Jan. 18th, which puts me at about 38 weeks + a couple of days. Not to rehash all of this again, but needless to say, I am extremely unhappy with this news, in spite of all the positives, I just can't stop crying. Given that I have no choice, I guess now I must mobilize to get caretakers for my other two kids and prepare for my surgery. Is there such a thing as " post-partum depression " prior to delivery?? I know that some of you have been kind enough to offer me a copy of a c-section birth plan (?) as well as words of advice and suggestions/tips for recovery. Could you please send them to me at lia@... ?? Thank you in advance for all your support. Take care, Lia UD, 35 wks + with baby boy#3, EDD Jan 18, 02>>> Well, first of all, try to remember all the good news that you have received from the ultrasound. Just a little perspective from my point of view....I had a baby boy who was head down like he should be for the last months of my pregnancy and I went through labor and it may have been a quick experience and I may have been lucky like other women in my family to have a speedy delivery. My labor began at 3:40 AM and I didn't end up delivering until 8:40 PM...17 hours of labor and it wasn't a vaginal delivery. There was no way of knowing until I was in labor that my son wouldn't be able to come out 'normally' and no way of knowing if my BU had anything to do with it. I wasn't completely dilating and it's possible that I have a septum that was hindering my dilation and so they had me stick to laying on one side to try to help the 'septum' dilate but that made me more uncomfortable and in more pain [i had an epidural but it works with gravity (for those who don't know...I didn't) and staying on just the one side only, I was feeling my contractions fully on one side]. Then they also did an u/s to see exactly how he was positioned and how he was reacting to the labor and they saw that he was face up instead of face down. They checked me during a contraction and my baby wasn't moving down and out during the contraction at all, like he should. The doctor said it was like a lock and key that don't fit and I ended up having to have a C-section but didn't know that would happen. Personally, I was getting frustrated and was actually starting to ask for a C-section because I knew my progress was going to so slow after it had started out so quick. I guess I'm just trying to say that you'll be able to better prepare yourself and as long as you end up with a healthy baby in the end, how it happens isn't that important. Good luck to you and the baby. I hope that when the time comes, you'll be feeling better about it. Sandi
