Guest guest
Don't know if I posted my 4 yr old grandson was with me again the other day and was more behaviorally/emotionally disturbed than the last time I had him. I told my son and his wife they will get in for some counseling help or I will get a lawyer and sue for custody. Shane insisted on taking him home that night against my better judgement. Today I went with his mom to the Dr. again. I had already told him what was going on when I took Kody in for his refills last week so he is aware of the problems and my interventions. We are trying to get as many people in our extended family to go to the same Dr. so he can see the whole picture. He increased 's Ritalin to 7 1/2 mg morning and 2 1/2mg afternoon, put him back on the GSE to help even out his emotional level instead of the radical up and down the Ritalin does, put him on the CoQ10 again since he responded so positively to it before and gave him the Zyrtek antihistamine syrup which lasts 8 hrs to combat reactions to substances he reacts to negatively that they keep letting him have (like food dyes and preservatives). He said we will put him on essential fatty acids and carnitine soon but only try a few new things at a time so we can monitor it better. He reitterated the need for family counseling and says the peeing around the house is a sign of very disturbed behavior and he needs help. He talked about nutrients being synergistic in that for instance the mito specialists are doing a kind of shot in the dark thing with them and not really trying to study and prescribe a more holistic approach looking at synergistic properties of the various nutrients. (I know they are too overwhelmed to study all this, but for metabolic disorders I think too this is paramount to survival and living the best we can.) Anyway, since Dr. is learning so much about the nutrient side of medicine and is so interested in this mito thing he is really trying to look at it in as intelligent a way as he can. I really appreciate it. He had written and asked Dr. Cohen what he thought of adding the essential fatty acids and Dr. Cohen said he thought it was a good idea. Dr. also is pushing me to get my records together for him and Dr. Cohen. But I may have another daughter and her 2 & 3 yr olds move back in with me any day and am watching the other daughter's 4 kids while she goes to school (the 2 I'm raising and the 2 she has) while she's in school, so I am pretty much at my wits end to just survive right now, esp. with all the health and emotional problems that keep arising. Dr. says the reason a nutrient will begin working great for you and then seem to quit is perhaps because the body is so deplete when you first take it it is like a slam bang, WOW feeling and then as you continue the body begins to make correct use of it and send it out to all the places it needs to go and you need to increase the dosage (his guess he admits). I know with B12 it is the opposite tho as in it builds up the stores first and THEN begins to use the extra for it's other needs-wierd, huh? His nurse asked for the links to the mito sites and support group and said she also understood from somewhere the ADHD may be a mito disorder and was starting her daughter on these nutrients (GSE and CoQ10, etc.). She suggested a book " The New Nutrition " by Dr. Colgan. Dr. suggested a book Encyclopedia of Nutritional Supplements " by T. Murray, N.D. telling me his collegues would not be too pleased he was into it-isn't that sad in this day and age for some medical people to have such archaic attitudes? Sorry for the length and for things some of you may think has nothing to do with mito but I do and I know some others do so please bear with me. S.
