Guest guest
Vitamin D Supplementation - Recommended Dosages http://www.vitasearch.com/CP/weeklyupdates/ Reference: “Benefit-risk assessment of vitamin D supplementation,†Bischoff-Ferrari HA, Shao A, et al, Osteoporos Int, 2009 Dec 3; [Epub ahead of print]. (Address: Centre on Aging and Mobility, Department of Rheumatology and Institute of Physical Medicine, University Hospital Zurich, Gloriastrasse 25, 8091, Zurich, Switzerland. E-mail: Heike.Bischoff@... ). Summary: In a review of randomized, double-blind, controlled trials assessing the effects of higher dose vitamin D and higher 25(OH)D level and prevention of falls and fractures, a significant dose-response relationship was observed between higher dose of vitamin D and higher 25(OH)D level and greater prevention of falls and fractures. Data from a total of 44,705 subjects was analyzed. The greatest effects were found for the highest dose of vitamin D tested (700-1000 IU/d) and the highest levels of 25(OH)D (75-110 nmol/l) achieved. The authors conclude, “Our analysis suggests that mean serum 25(OH)D levels of about 75 to 110 nmol/l provide optimal benefits for all investigated endpoints without increasing health risks. These levels can be best obtained with oral doses in the range of 1,800 to 4,000 IU vitamin D per day....†------------------------------------ Jan Patenaude, RD, CLT Consultant, Writer, Speaker Director of Medical Nutrition Signet Diagnostic Corporation (Mountain Time) Fax: DineRight4@...
