For my last scan, I was off meds for 11 weeks; at the end of week 6, my TSH was still in the single digits but it eventually made it to the level (35) required by my endo. The scan was clean, and my doctor said that with a TG of 0 after almost 3 months off medication, he considered mets extremely unlikely. I was really glad to hear that, since by then I don't think I could have survived the few more days necessary to schedule another RAI. It took me a long time to get hypo enough to suit the doctor, but when I got there, it hit me like a ton of bricks. In the past I've always seen my TSH rise dramatically during week 6. I have no idea why it took so long last time, but at least in my case it wasn't because of mets. So don't borrow trouble; there's no point losing sleep over what *might* be going on when you'll know for sure in less than two weeks. ellen -- mailto:ellen@... Guest guest
Hi thyca buds, First of all I want to say that I'm sorry for coming across so " authoratative " when I really am so new at this. If I can offer any kind of explanation it would be that I was overly stressed by both PMS and RAI converging at the same point in time--not a good combination. ;o) So I want to apologize for saying things like: " hypo isn't as bad as some make it out to be. " You're right....I wasn't very hypo at all by comparison. --in KY tt 4/9/01; pap w/ foll var; RAI 7/23/01 150 mCi; scan sch 8/8/01 Apology accepted by this individual. I once heard a wise woman say. " Never ruin an apology with an excuse. " Just make your apologies to the rest of the persons whom you offended, and we we'll start over. P.S. I don't have a clue re: your question. Guest guest
It may mean you have a pretty functional bit of thyroid left in you that is still pumping out the ol' T4, making it more difficult for your body to get to a high TSH.... After this recent ablation, you may find you do differently the next time around and get more hypo faster (or you could be like me and do the 6 weeks and barely make 30 for scan or RAI... although I feel like 300 at the time I'm TSH 30, i just have a really hard time getting above that... and my scans are clean and my TG is < 2 so i guess i fall into YMMV - go figure) barb > Hi thyca buds, > First of all I want to say that I'm sorry for coming across > so " authoratative " when I really am so new at this. I addressed my apology message to " thyca buds, " so that is the whole group; even though I didn't think I offended the whole group, I wanted to err on the side of overdoing it instead of underdoing it. If you don't want to clutter the public message board, feel free to email me privately about this because I truly don't know what you're talking about. --in KY tt 4/9/01; papillary w/ follicular var; RAI 150mCi 7/23/01; scan sch for 8/8/
Guest guest
Thanks, Renata, I never thought about all my others meds interfering. I take 2 different meds twice a day for diabetes plus meds for 2 other medical conditions. That is certainly something to consider, although I can't go off of any of them--it does help explain it. --Chris > hi to all that can't seem to get the TSH high enough for a scan... > on 6/29, in preparation for the TBS and RAI, i went off everything...from > arthritis medication, BC pills, any pain medication and no > vitamins/calcium....i mean off of everything. > not everyone will be the same but i reached TSH 57 by 7/12. > hope this helps > thanks > renata > > > >
