Guest guest
BBC selects for P. Srinivasa for AIDS awareness campaign Monday - May 22, 2006. Televisionpoint.com Correspondent The AIDS menace is a worldwide concern. And unfortunately India happens to be the second largest country, after South Africa, with more than 4.5 million AIDS affected people. In one of the many efforts put together to fight this evil, P. Srinivasa, based at Hyderabad, has been select ed by the BBC in collaboration with Doordarshan to come up with innovative ways to spread AIDS awareness. Srinivasa, who runs a socio-cultural organisation called Nrityanjali Academy has been involved in various awareness campaigns for the last 10 years. He has worked extensively in developing songs and placards to directly address the public. " I was involved in theatre. Though AIDS was not as big a threat eight years back it was on the rise and I felt compelled to do something to make a difference to people's lives. If you lecture them they won't listen to you, but sing the same message or put it across as a play and you can capture their attention. " said Srinivasa. Srinivasa is happy about being handpicked by the BBC and says, " I am thrilled that I will be able to help so many people by working on a national platform. It is a brilliant opportunity to reach out to a large number of people. Songs are the most effective medium to touch the hearts of the public. My previous album Asha has already sold 350 copies in AP. " he said. His campaigns have also been screened in Thailand and at the HIV concert in Japan. However his campaign has been bogged down by the fact that sex is made the major point of discussion. http://www.televisionpoint.com/news2006/newsfullstory.php? id=1148303405
