going hypo??

When you do the low Iodine Diet you wont gain weight. I found the

diet to be more frustring with the Thyrogen Scan. When I went Hypo I

lost my appetitie and felt quesy.

> Has anyone actually had a bad experience with thyrogen?

I did fine with the injections I drove and went back to work the two

days after the injections. When I went in for the Tracer dose on the

Third day I felt a little quesy. Three hours after I took the trace

dose I threw up. But remember everyone is different. Most people

get a few flu symptoms. Thyrogen still beats hypo!

In another five years they will probably have Thyrogen Improved.

I didn't gain any weight either time I used Thyrogen vs going hypo.

However, my latest endo has informed me that he doesn't think the Thyrogen

way produces accurate results. Sigh! Back to doing it the hard way.

I went though Thyrogen scan twice, last year and this year. I did not gain any

weight. I had nausea and fatique with the Thyrogen but it still was much easier

than hypo.

Does anyone know if the tracer doses used in scanning can be harmful to

youthful thyroids?? I have a 21 month old and have considered sleeping at my

parents house for the days following my tracer dose. Any sense in doing this?

Thanks,

Audra

PS - I just DON'T want my child to worry about thryoid problems...No need.

Yes, it CAN be harmful. I would avoid contact even at a scan dose. Radiation

doesn't play favorites -- it emits no matter WHO is out there. Yes, it isn't

a *lot* of radiation, but it *is* more than background.

My dh's parents worked with and around nuclear stuff at Hanford (chemists,

etc.) and we are very paranoid about the effects of radiation around here.

I get a scan dose, probably late next week, and have a 1 year old, 3 year

old, plus older children. I will stay away from them from the time I get the

dose until the time I scan. I'd rather be safe than sorry. MHO.

Here is a website that explains radiation: <A
