Guest guest
dear thyca group... just thought I'd let you know where I am with things. I've found out my follicular cancer did indeed have vascular invasion, but it was on the microscopic level. Not seem by the nakid eye... thus , it was at it's very begining stages, thank goodness!! ps-- i still have a partial 1/2 lobe intact. Here's where my decisions stands, to either go in for more surgery, get a TT followed by 100mCi's RAI... Have 30 mCi's of RAI and a scan 6 months later, or just be followed closely, having my TSH levels monitored and if it fluctuates drastically high (currently my TSH is at 333.6) then have follow-up treatment with surgery and RAI. I'm leaning toward just being followed. But I don't want to cause myself more harm than good! It's a hard decision... I have an appointment in early July with the group at Washington Hospital and hopfully can get thier feedback-- which Dr.Ringle says it will most likely be for surgery and RAI... but then I hear thier group is very agressive in their treatments. It's a hard decision... I'm just glad I don't have a severly life threatening cancer like breast cancer or colon cancer... or lukemia, well all other cancers are pretty sever. At least thy ca has a good treatment and survival rate... I feel like I'm in between a rock and a hard place... thanks for listening... Guest guest
Anne, I say, go for aggressive. This is based on my two aggressive treatments--first, radical surgery and second, the right dose of RAI 131. Of course in the end, you are the one who has to make the final decision. But aggressive tx has given me 36+ years after dx. Best wishes, whatever you decide. from Canton, Ohio ===== Irradiation to thymus as infant 1944 3/25/65 tt Pap thyca w/lymph node mets Hypoparathyroidism 3 days post radical tt 3/25/82 Recurrence in neck & R chest Tx w/ 176 mCi RAI 131 hx kidney stones No scan 05/01 after TSH 38.2 & Tg < 0.9 & TgAb < 2.0 dear thyca group... just thought I'd let you know where I am with things. Guest guest
Anne, I agree with to go aggressive. It is your decision, but I was dx at 28 with doctors who should have been more aggressive. I had young children and was worried about the effects of RAI on myself and the kids. Now, I'm 45 and facing it again for the 3rd time. My philosophy now is whatever it takes, get it gone, if possible. Good luck - I know all the decisions are difficult. dx tt w/9 pos nodes '84 9/pos nodes & RAI '94 neck mets '
