Guest guest
Who do you call to have your home tested for mercury or other enviromental toxins? I went to an Unlocking Autism conference this past weekend where Lyn Redwood spoke about " new house syndrome. " Apparently, a lot of children who have autism also live in new homes ( as does my son). My son started to slip away right around the same time we moved into the new home ( and around the same time of the MMR). Just wondering who does this sort of testing in the home? stacey
Guest guest
Wow, new home syndrome, I never heard of that one. We moved into a new home just before I got pregnant with my son. I remember feeling so sick from all the lingering chemical smells. Kathy [ ] Mercury Testing in the Home Who do you call to have your home tested for mercury or other enviromental toxins? We lived with wet carpet for about a week and then new carpeting was installed with all the toxins involved with new carpeting. Also right before and during the first months of my pregnancy I was involved in opening a brand new Sears store. Guest guest
Well to add to this thread we had the worst of both.....an old house...with brand new scotch guarded carpeting that our old Lab was constantly having accidents on thus we had to constantly wash the carpet, stirring up all the nasties and our baby son was always dragging his blanky on the floor....if i knew then what i know now... Guest guest
You just can't win. I live in a 70+ year old house and worry constantly about lead paint and asbestos and have been fantasizing about a new house. Though you know, when my son was 14 months old we moved into a BRAND NEW apartment and were there until he was almost three. We were the first to live there. And my landlord was a freak about having the pesticide guy come all the time and spray for bugs (since they hadn't landscaped yet and there were tons of bugs there.) AGGGG!!! Guest guest
I had never heard of the " new house syndrome " either until last week. Then, I was saying OMG!! I also just realized about how many times we had our carpets in the old house cleaned and my poor baby crawling all over those new carpets. It makes you think does'nt it? At the conference, Lyn Redwood spoke about how carpets can outgas for up to 10 years. Outgassing what? There is no telling what comes from the carpet. and in our new home, the dust is so bad due to all of the stuff swept down into the vents during building. We are having a new filtration system installed. Re: [ ] Mercury Testing in the Home <Wow, new home syndrome, I never heard of that one. Guest guest
Outgasing the chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Most carpet is made from synthetic fibers (chemicals) and put together with glue (chemicals).
